Saw that, it's great his asking price is near to what a top-dollar original 145.012 would bring! Some people really just don't understand vintage.

Just an FYI - seeing that the seller is in Vernon, BC, I suspect the place that did the service is:

    http://thegermanwatchmaker.sites.ca/index.php

When you consider that the movement plates and bridges are made of brass, if all plating were removed, it would be yellow, not silver. To me it looks like the chronograph bridge is a slightly different finish, so it might have been stripped and plated to try to match the rest of the movement by someone. Who did this is not certain, and I would not accuse the watchmaker until we know the details. For all we know he was brought the watch this way and just serviced it. I can assure you that to most watchmakers, a vintage Speedmaster is just another watch to service, and holds no special aura to them.

Trying to recall if Watchtinker had ever mentioned a Cal. 321 that was done in a silver finish...

    Cheers, Al

This one has been there for months. Seller has a few torn up 321's of various references... prices are very high for what he's selling.

Seeing this brings to mind one of the first instructions on Speedmaster101... make sure the movement is the correct color!

This literally hurt my eyes::puke:::whipped:, I may have to go open mine to re-calibrate my vision! :p

So the movement, hands, bezel and dial are replacements? As good as new, just like he says...

At this point, why not just buy a brand new Speedmaster and save some money?!

Seeing that watch makes me sad.

I have been to Norbert (The German Watchmaker linked to above) and he's actually quite good, very knowledgeable, and it would surprise me if he would be involved with this watch. Clearly someone has done some horrible work, but it would really shock me if it was indeed him.

Really too bad that work was done.......

This looks like the kind of thing Omega themselves would do, I wonder if "the best German watchmaker" simply sent it off to Bienne. Perhaps it was in such bad condition beforehand he had to?

Well I'm only speculating he serviced it based on the location of the seller and their proximity to that establishment. I don't know the watchmaker at all, and have only seen others refer to him on forums. And as I've said, there's absolutely no evidence that whoever the last watchmaker was had anything to do with the colour of the movement...

I messaged the seller and he said Norbert, thegermanwatchamker, did not work on this watch.

Also confirmed that it's a franken-watch. I think it's way too much $$ for what it is. The watchmaker is not to blame here...

Absolutely agree, I know you pointed that out as well. You also mentioned we shouldn't blame the watchmaker unless we knew the details as well.

And now that we know more details, you were absolutely correct [emoji106]

    Hi Al,
I feel I need to come to the defense of Norbert Zerbes. This work would be very out of character for Norbert from "The German Watchmaker." He is a stickler for detail and wouldn't defile a watch. He's one of the better guys here on the west coast to do a respectful service on a watch. As an aside, Vernon is a 5 hour drive from Vancouver and there are several watchmakers in small towns all over BC, some of whom are probably German. I just hope that calling him out on a forum like this won't affect his business. I know it wasn't your intent.
    Regards,
    Ernie

    Hi Ernie,

I didn't "call him out" for anything - please reread my post. And I'll say it now a third time - there is no evidence that the last watchmaker who worked on this had anything to do with the colour of the plates.

Someone has checked and verified that the business I mentioned had nothing to do with this, so I don't think there was any damage done here, at least I hope not...other than to the watch I guess...;)

    Cheers, Al
