Hi, when the eveningpapers start talking about possible 100 000 $ Speedmasters found in drawers or other places people start remembering what they have. Now a third Speedmaster from 1959 has surfaced and is coming up for auction, story again in Finnish : https://m.kauppalehti.fi/uutiset/uutinen/cw4HyvLh?ref=ampparit:5194&ext=ampparit Every watch has a story and so also this one, the owner of this 2915-3 Speedmaster is an avid Rally-fan and subscribed already in 1950 to Sport Car Illustraded where he in the fall of 1959 saw an Speedmaster ad. Inspired by the ad he was in contact with Omega USA about the watch, but newer got an answer. That christmas he received the watch from his father who had secretly ordered it from the local Omega importer. It is still a full set with box, guarantee & receipt. He used it daily (even when driving rallycars) until the seventies when he got a Omega Speedsonic instead. After that it has waited safely in its original box. This time it is Bukowski who handels the sale in April and they say that the watch is in excellent condition and will likely go above their previous record (226 930 euro). Startingprice is 40 000 euro. Enjoy the picture and wait for more info from Bukowski. Any thoughts on condition and orginality ? Vulffi
Lume on hands really jars with that on the dial. But the dial looks like it might be a little brown. Bezel looks shot. We used to talk about "meteor shower" bezel condition, but perhaps "Finnish Rallying" is more apt after this.
Very nice, but given the well loved condition, I'm not sure that it will break records. Won't be cheap, but won't blow the roof off imho.
Wow, Finland is currently vintage Speedy centre of the world! Dial could be very nice, but I would also be surprised if this goes above the price achieved for the 2915-1 they sold.
Well it appears original - or as mentioned, well loved. The last one I saw sold about three (?) years ago for roughly USD $75,000. It was in MUCH better condition - sold by a private Asian owner who confided in me he was disappointed in the auction result. I think the 2915-3 is siting in a niche. There are some avid and knowledgeable specialists, but unless they happen to converge on this sale and compete, then I wonder if this will sit around $50,000 - 60,000 - and it may not even reach there.
It looks attractive, but it's such a shame that the hands' lume is so white... Apart from that the dial looks nice, and I dig the washed out bezel but I 100% agree with @oddboy & @Spacefruit , I can't see this watch go near 100k, let alone break the record of a minty 2915-1...
