So I have been on the fence with this dilemma.... Looking to get my first Rolex or two in a couple weeks.

Option one: Fat four full set 16610lv
Option two: One full set 1675 GMT

Option three: One 16800 and one 16750, thinking with some hunting could get these both in my range.

For some reason I keep coming back to option one or two, would love to hear some thoughts. I am open to their multiple piece options to add to the list.

    Thanks!

I’d go for option three. I think you could get both, esp if you’re willing to skip box/papers.

I'd always opt for the more significant pieces when it comes to vintage (around 10-20k range...higher ranges harder to sell mostly) as the good pieces appreciate faster and is safer buy. I like both options 1 and 2....less is more.

    Option 1 or Option 2

I lean more toward the 16610lv. Just love the green bezel, goes with everything. The flat 4 is going to appreciate like craze in the future too...

I would say it depends on how your collection looks as a whole. If you have a very small collection. Then option 3. But if you have already a sizeable collection i would pick option 2. Good luck.

My collection is on the small side as I just got back into collecting a few months ago after some other interests took hold. With that being said, I have tried to focus on pieces that sing to me over quantity. Obviously as outlined below I was bitten by the speedie bug first upon my return to watches..

Hmm. Well seeing that you do have more than three watches. Its hard. I guess it all depends on the condition. Which watch is more attractive. But if we put all even playing field. I would pick option 2. My opinion. 1675 is killer. But you can not go wrong at all with option 3.
I do like that watch. But i lean more towards vintage. So thats why i prefer the 1675.

Thanks @Noles_88 I too lean towards vintage but the 16610lv fat four definitely sings to me. The 16610lv I was after may be traded so I think next up I will be hunting for the right 1675 unless another Fat Four comes up that is at the right price.

    I appreciate all the feedback.

    I'd do it differently
Get a nice 1680/1650 and a 1675. GMT should be Pepsi, just to mix it up.
Consolidate all your speedies down to a 2998/.002/.003

Get them all serviced to run like they are suppose to, and pass their pressure tests. Enjoy them.

Not sure what a 1650 is supposed to refer to but I agree with the 1680 + 1675 collection, without B&P, which may be doable at the upper end of the range you mentioned. And my sense is that if the 16610lv is approaching your stated budget you are paying way too much.

Interesting food for thought on the speedies.

1680/1675 would be great, if I could find the right examples in my range.
Did I miss the initial boat on the fat four, sure but if you find one under 14k please let me know!!

Imho flat4 Kermit. I didn't think they are that high though if you hunt.

Honestly anything without the rehaut is good in my book.

Full set nice early f/y serial 16610lv would probably be mid teens now. 1675 could get closer to 20k for a nice full set depending on the dial/hands.

    why full set?

I would be focusing on case being unpolished and killer lume/insert patina...screw papers

I have a full set red sub, and I do not remember the last time I even looked at the box. That anchor is probably hanging out with my daughter's legos.

Yeah, full set is not a requirement, I will be wearing whatever I purchase (no safe queens here). It just so happened the pieces I was looking at that caught my eye were full sets. If anyone comes across a great fat four please let me know!!
