Hi all, This is my first posting on the OMEGA forum. I am from The Netherlands and watch collector for over 20 years. Started with vintage IWC and vintage Rolex. Recently I came to the conclusion that owning too many watches without actually wearing them is not my piece of cake, so recently I sold a lot. I kept some IWC like the Mk XI, Mk XII (my first IWC) Mk XV, UTC and a 5441 Portugieser. All Rolex were sold except my first one, a 1982 Oysterdate Precision 6694 I bought then as a student in Amsterdam. So now myonly focus is on some pieces I will wear and keep for my children. That is why I bought an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 15300 (blue dial) and a very classic Patek 5107J. One piece was missing though, a OMEGA Moonwatch so on this special day, 50 years after Apollo 11 launch, I decided to order a brand new one; of course with the Hesalite crystal. Ordered some OMEGA NATO's and a folding buckle with croc strap too. Looking forward to read here all interesting posts and this icon
Will get the Omega soonish. Another thing I bought was the Moonwatch Only book. (2nd ed). which will actually arrive today. I love reading and collection info on watches.
Welcome and congratulations on your purchase You certainly picked an iconic day (the launch) to get one. Maybe you will pick up on the 21st. I’ve been considering this move too, not sure if I will go through with it yet. I love all my watches but you have a very nice lineup. Look forward to the pics
I just receive the Moonwatch Only book. This is really one of the nicest watch books I have purchased so far....
Cool beans, sir! 1. Make sure to get a pic [via your phone camera] from inside the presentation box with the lid fully closed...you have the technology. 2. Make sure to utilize the Moonwatch Only book at the gym...you have the technology. 3. Make sure to be like Apollo 11 and simulate that stuff they did on the Moon with your new Moonwatch...you have the technology. 4. Make sure to go to Hooters and wear your new Moonwatch...you have the technology.
So today, the watch was delivered. Put on some various OEM NATO's and I fell in love; this is an awesome watch
As asked by some of you, some other watches form my collection. I am sure you will recognise them Enjoy
Very much like you, this is my first real posting (didn't stumble across a "Introduce Yourself " so I'll start here) I'm from Pennsylvania and have also started paring down and also replacing some "lost treasures". I have had an assortment of Breitling, Rolex & IWC that came & went over the years as I either tried of them or found them disappointing in one way or another. I had a NASA marked Speedmaster in the 70's and for some stupid reason traded it off. (BTY, I'm 71) The upcoming 50th anniversary of the landing prompted me to acquire another earlier this month. One of the jobs I had while working my way through college was for a company that made most, if not all, of the metal etched switch & control label plates for the orbital capsules, it was quite secretive and fascinating, had to get a "secret" level clearance to work on them. Met several representatives from NASA during this period, so I was easy picking, as a watch lover, for a Speedmaster. Bought mine from an AD in Maryland as my wife kindly allowed me to use her Breitling Lady J as a partial trade. So I now own (used it as my avatar) a 311.30.42.30.01.005 Speedmaster. I was tempted by the skeleton back of the Sandwich, but the sapphire front just looked out-of-place, so I opted for the original, yet, just ordered some PolyWatch. Overall, I'm delighted with it, but like some, unable to get it properly sized due to the unavailability of half-links. I've already contacted my AD to order the adjustable clasp and end links. They are also ordering the tan leather strap and deployment clasp. Hopefully something in this combination will provide a comfortable fit. I'd also like to find the Omega NATO black strap with the white "Speedmaster" embroidered on it, perhaps the Omega Boutique at King-Of-Prussia might have one. Anyway, my new Speedy is providing a lot of enjoyment, hoping to wear it for many years. Interesting forum, seems to be a lot of nice folks with good information here, also quite welcoming, thanks for inviting me aboard
@mhoutman some nice watches right there, enjoy MWO really is a book you are likely to go back to time and time again
