On (personal) engravings... Show and tell!

Whilst the forum is full of topics on whether or not to engrave watches and whether it detracts value, or not, I haven't yet come across a topic showcasing personal engravings on watches. Especially in vintage pieces, they do add to the story and - when done nicely - add to the appeal for vintage pieces.

Without deliberately looking for them, I have found a few in my own collection and thought it would be fun to share them. Even more interesting would be to know the backstories to them, which on the examples below, I am afraid I do not fully.

A few examples from my own collection:

145.022-71 Speedmaster: "From American Air Speed to J.B."
Probably a '72 present watch, which judging by the extremely good condition wasn't received well enough to become a daily wearer. Or, more positively phrased it's been someone's Sunday watch. In spite of lots of Googling, asking around and other research, I am yet to discover what American Air Speed actually is, or rather, used to be.

(The little slip up in the R of American is something I've come to forgive it for...)

145.012-67 Speedmaster: "F. Canoves / GS. A RH. +"
This is, I think, I not too common to find as an engraving. This Speedmaster, originally delivered to Spain, bears the original owners' blood type. Having bought this from relatives of the original owner, through an intermediary, I have only come to know that the original owner suffered a medical condition and deemed it necessary to have his blood type known. I think it looks cool!

Now... please share and show engravings you've come across or perhaps even (had) done yourself. Show, and tell!

Good spot! This oldie on 'inscriptions' is one I've missed while looking for topics on 'engravings'... Oops.

That said, looking at how little activity that thread has seen, hopefully this sparks some new contributions. Still love to see more!

I have a few, here is the first that comes to mind. This was a watch that was purchased from the estate of a former fighter pilot. After returning from WWII, he founded a local bank with some partners in his Oklahoma home town, and continued to fly a vintage WWII fighter plane at fairs and air-shows. At some point, the plane was painted to promote the bank. He was given the watch to commemorate 20 years of the bank.

This is a 12-size Waltham Colonial that I bought at auction, years ago. A presentation watch from 1937, and I’m certain the recipient never wore it. The case is 14-karat gold. At current gold prices, the watch case alone is presently worth about 10 times what I paid for the watch!

I have a few.

Probably the most interesting:

1946 Waltham 12s Colonial R in a 14k Keystone case.

Who Mr. Holzman was and what he did for the Ford Motor Company I don’t know. But he must have been a person of some importance to receive a solid gold watch from Henry Ford in 1946.

Perhaps that R is a cover up of an original X?
You should have been searching for A Mexican Air Speed all this time. 🤠🤣

I'm considering getting this done on my Carrera.

Jack would prefer I change "Success" to either "Keep Trying" or "Occasionally Participates" but, since I'll be paying, I have the casting vote 😎

I think this one is cool too.
Blood type on a Speedmaster. You've got to be telling tales of a former racing car driver 😎
