On House Arrest

For the third time since COVID began, I find myself in isolation. The first couple times were fine, because I was not sick.

This time I am feeling it. It’s more like a cold but persistent. Unlike the previous times, I am not using our home gym and our driveway has an accumulation of snow from three days of winter weather.

On top of it all, the most valuable of my modest collection of watches are stored in our previously rarely used safety deposit box. (Decision made after reading about chunkythebulldog’s incident. Any single watch from his collection was more valuable than my entire lot!)

Still, I have a few here and recently bought some polywatch so all is not lost. Plus I have the latest Lee Child and a fireplace.

I am hoping for my test results soon.

The Skyrocket and your rose gold Rolex aren’t there, so they must be elsewhere. I feel for you in your situation.

Wednesday of last week, two of us went to the acreage of a recently deceased friend, a collector of watches (easily 600, wrist and pocket). My friend knew he had three private label pocket watches with Grand Trunk Railway dials, and he wanted them! While there, he spied two other Canadian private label pocket watches which he wanted. He also unearthed an 1883 model Waltham Dominion Atlantic Railways watch (locomotive and tender in vitreous enamel hand painted on the dial!) He wanted that one as well. While he and the widow talked turkey, I vacated the premises so they do the deal in private. It wasn’t a bitter cold day, but there was a wind. I don’t remember feeling cold. When the sale was made, I went back into the house. On the way home, I asked him if he bought the Dominion Atlantic. He did! He told me she named her price, and that he paid her more for it.

That night, I came down with chills. Couldn’t get warm! I ended up staying in bed for 36 hours, not eating. By last Saturday, I was pretty well back to normal.

Since your retirement is imminent, I am sure this would be a good time to take advantage of your accumulated sick time!

Ugg, good luck, hope you beat it without too much struggle. My buddy recently picked up a case of covid after spending a few days in Tennessee. Super healthy 35 year old, he was knocked on his ass for several days, sickest he ever remembers being, finally got his sense of smell back a few days ago.

Hope you’re feeling better soon!

Godspeed, Steve. This is a nasty bug, take it easy and don’t push it until well beyond when you think you “feel fine”, you could relapse until you get your body back up to strength.
A very close friend and his wife (both vaccinated) got it from their 4 year old the first week she went back to school. He’s 41 and she’s 39. She was fine, light sniffle and congestion. He was on his ass for a week. Results may vary.

"Hopefully"(?) It's the flu.

Love your cricket. And your black and white Constellation photo. I bet you could spend the next 36 hours napping and taking macro pictures.

Hang in there. Good on you for isolating. Keep us informed on how your doing.

EDIT: On house arrest. I just got the irony.

So that you can focus on healing instead of worrying, I’ve spoken with your wife and she’s written my name on the back of your Speedy with a sharpie. If you pull through, it’ll wash off. If not, you’ll know it went to a good home 👍. Let me know if I can help in any other way.

@DaveK ,

You are soooo magnanimous! How great you would bend over (backwards) so far for a friend! Not too many folks would make such a selfless sacrifice! Let’s all pray for @Duracuir1 !

The Lee Child books never disappoint, if you get tired eyes after a while, they have beautifully narrated all of the books in audiobook form on Audible (among other places) and I actually find the voice acting adds to it quite a bit

As a person who just came back out of quarantine I know what isolation can do. So all the best and take it easy!

We invested in some cheap Oxygen monitors. The appliance of science removes the worry when feeling really icky might actually be seriously sickie.. the statistics mean most times and for most people thankfully it is just feeling rough. At least it is a time of year to hunker down ... but still not nice and wish you well.

I hope you beat this thing soon. I know a few people who have had it and had it linger on quite awhile.

Steve, I hope you’re feeling better soon. Hunker down for awhile and let’s hope your test is negative. Sweating out test results is a drag, right?

(I appreciate the good vibes you have sent my way. I’ll be six weeks post-op on Friday and doing pretty well)
