This is something very special that just appeared on Omega's facebook page, a preview of what looks to be an all new Omega Constellation Pie-Pan with Co-Axial movement:

Now that's what I'm talking about! I fear though the price of this in 18k gold will be astronomical! Make mine in stainless steel, no date, black dial with white gold arrowhead markers and a cal. 8500 movement in a 38mm-40mm size case and I'm all in!

And this might make the vintage constellation prices skyrocket even more!

No doubting that at all, even though its a small pic, they've done it right, the facets of the pie-pan and the minute track look spot on, the date window design looks as it should, and the choice of arrowheads captures the pick of the Constellations of the era. The dial text isn't overdone either, simple and elegant. Best of all, they've finally proven Hoi wrong, as the minute hand most definitely exceeds the minute track ;)

Price wise you get the feeling they're probably going to slot this one in to compete with the Datejust. In terms of styling, history, and design they've got a serious shot at de-throning it too, especially in Asia.

Dunno man, but a 40mm, rose gold case with dial, hands and markers like the one previewed on FB would look freaking hot - I'd pass on the date feature too.

Rose gold with rose gold step-sided Pie-Pan dial in a grand lux case with brick bracelet perhaps? The 10 sided Constellation crown is a must, and there will no doubt be plenty of strap versions which will look great, but with so much design language and history in the Constellation line to draw upon, they have the potential to really knock it out of the park with this and create a new dress line with a history that's untouchable and a collector market already built in. No doubt there will also be a nice sapphire integrated displayback to view that Cal 8500 movement too, and these watches will likely be 100M water resistant to boot.

Here's hoping the case size is of modest proportions. The pics look gorgeous, but I can't see a Pie Pan looking correct at 42mm.

Well the first thing that strikes me is the hands that don't conform to the vintage standard - they're way beyond the chapter ring. Looks like they've drawn from 50s Connies for the design.

I think this is exciting and I'll really be interested to see the full case design - expect it will be very much luck an enlarged version of the 2782 and 2852s.

I think MIke is right about prices. May be useful to get one's pristine examples in 18k before another big price hike.

    Bring it on!

    Cheers

Robert-Jan from FratelloWatches did an article recently on the 60th and 30th anniversary of the Constellation and Constellation Manhattan, which ties in rather neatly with this, I wonder if we're going to have to wait for Basel 2013, or if they'll push these out this year to make it in time for the 60th anniversary of the 1952 launch:

I don't know, I quite like the length of the hands, but then I am biased ;)

I still need to score an 18K Constellation to match the Seamaster, I don't own any connies at present actually, my stainless steel CK 2852 is actually my father's watch

Depends on the size and the price. I think they might both be over my comfort zone. Besides, I've always said I'll track down the original instead of buying the reissue. Looks like this pie pan homage could be very nice though.

Oh dear, Hoi is gonna pitch a fit. :p

I think we'll probably see a 37mm and a 39-40.5mm, Patek are making Calatravas in 37mm which have a similar style to the Constellation cases, the 37mm also puts it slightly above the Rolex Datejust and is in keeping with the current De Ville prestige. From the dial it really looks like they're taking it seriously, in which case they'll know the size needs to stay under control. The team making this really look like they're going to a lot of trouble staying true to the original, with the level of collector investment they know this has the potential to be their new dress watch flagship if they pull it off correctly.

Of course Omega's monitoring forums like this one , where discussions of Pie Pans abound; can only have had a positive effect to this outcome, I like to think :)

The guys at Omega have probably been stocking up on Pie-Pans off eBay since they cooked this idea up, they're probably the reason why the prices have spiked in recent years lol

For a solid gold version of this, I wouldn't be surprised if the MSRP is north of $15,000. With a gold bracelet then we're probably talking MSRP of $30k For a stainless steel version perhaps an MSRP of $6-7k so choosing a stainless steel version is really for cost reasons - of course would love to have a rose gold version but unless it is at a 50% discount from retail I'm not paying for it.
