A new successor to the X-33 Mars Speedmaster, the Z-33 appears to be part modern aerospace tool watch, part relic of Omega's past: As pointed out by Ariel Adams from ablogtoread here: http://www.ablogtoread.com/omega-z-33-spacemaster-watch/ The case design borrows heavily from the original Alaska Project: While overall design and purpose appear very close to its spiritual successor, the X-33 Mars:
I'm waiting to see the caseback logo, guessing it'll be a hippocampus wearing a helmet. Incidentally this one has been long rumoured, as the trademark was registered back in December 2011.
The case design is inspired by the Flightmaster not the Alaska. It is known as Pilotline and was very popular back in the 70s. The display is pretty special actually and really the cleverness of the watch lurks therein. Its a chunky beauty that gets better the more you see it. not a watch for everyone, but a great addition for Omega all the same and good to see them continuing to develop quartz.
AFAIK its a prototype but Omega did release a LE edition that was similar to that in the last 10 years or so called the Alaska Project.
Matty, thats the one that was produced and you might be able to buy, the one shown here is a proto only and that pics if from the Omega museum.
I think the case is more akin to the Flightmaster and pilot line Seamasters of the 70's. I like it. It's bloody tall on the wrist though. Alarm is ear shattering!!
I played with that I the shop. The skywalker is a stunner, and a direct defendant of the Jedi and Anekin!
