Hi guys Picked up this Omega a couple of days back. I figure the dial has been touched up a little (the arrow) and the lume seems too green to be original though does appear quite old? I know the story of this watch but not had much first hand experience with it! No movement pics as case back too stubborn so that will be a job for my watchmaker. It has a signed crown which I know is wrong so will get this replaced. Thanks in advance! HH
I’d say you’ve evaluated it pretty well. He only obvious problems are those you’ve pointed out. The hands may well have been done by the MOD, in which case we could call them correct but not original. As they’re so bright I’d personally get them redone but of course that’s just my opinion. You could also get someone to try and do a better job with the dial but that’d carry some risk I suppose.
Thanks for the response, yeah I can have the watch redialled to a high standard but even a very good redial is still a redial so I think I will leave as it is and just pop a nice grey NATO on it.
No no no ! I never meant a full redial. I meant someone to carefully remove the touched up areas that are bright white, and then either a) leave as is, or b) replace the touched up areas more professionally and with better colour matching. Don’t redial it !
Hmm yeah I think your probably spot on as most of the dial is pretty good especially the aged lume dots. I'll see if this can be done. Cheers for the help
Are you in the UK ? If so James Hyman would be a good person to ask about feasibility. I’ve never used him myself but he always gets fantastic reviews on his reluming work. [email protected] https://omegaforums.net/threads/105-003-relume-james-hyman.69833/
That looks pretty nice as it to me, I vote leave it....or try and source a better matching set of original hands.
