Hi guys, in about a month or so I will finally have enough saving to buy my first ~$5000 watch!!
I have came down to the following 5 models.
Could you guys please help me in choosing one? It will be the one and only watch that I will be wearing until I hit 40. Possibly even 50 or 60.
    I'm 28 now.

Unfortunately no one can make that decision but you. It all really depends on how you will be wearing the watch, what style you prefer, etc. All are very nice options but like all watches it comes down to personal preference.

This would be a great thread for WUS...

Which of the five watches do you think will have the best value after 20 years?

Oh man, if I could predict values of watches 20 years down the road I would be a rich, rich man.

Unless you are making a speculative investment, just buy what you like and enjoy it!

Nobody knows the future so just buy what you like and wear them. IF you are extremely worried do some time-based research on sold prices on the net

my ego ain't big enough to tell you which one to buy.

However, I can offer you some advice:

Which do you feel more strongly about:

    1. Aesthetics

    2. Function

Are you going to swim a lot in them? Then don't get the Speedmasters.

Are watersports your thing? Then get a dive watch.

Are you going to a lot of formal occasions? I would argue none of these really work (some would disagree).

Also, check out the Private Watch Sales section here. There are a lot of great deals to be had from trusted members. You could probably even stretch your budget to two watches...a sporty and a dressy.

Have you handled all 5 of these in person? Have you tried on all 5? There are loads of other watches available in your price range, so my choice for a one-and-only would be 'none of these'.

What attributes are important to you? Do you want an automatic, or a manual wind? Do you need any more depth resistance than 50 meters? Do you want/ need a chrono function? Do you like cases that are about 42 mm in diameter? or 44 mm? Or 38 mm? Do you dress casually most of the time? etc. etc. etc.

I would say decide which one you like the most and go with that one.

I have seen them all except trilogy and seiko. I do want my watch to be waterproof for swimming, but no I don't do diving. I assume 50 m would be enough?

I like automatic and automatic+winding / kinetic. I have a thin wrist so 38 ~42 mm would be ideal. I would like to wear on every occasion. A watch that would look good with swim pants and suits at the same time would be perfect.

I’d rock all of them I’m 42. And have similar to all of them.

But depends on your wrist shape and size. And what you like.

Honestly the best all a rounder is most likely the stock 300. But that’s my choice. The 57 limited edition is a little too vintage for most as a daily watch. The Seiko is seriously cool but has way less prestige to most people.

I'm leaning towards the 300, the original speedmaster professional, and seiko.

It's refreshing to read such frankness...

It's an unspoken truth about watch snobbery

I’m not sure you can even find one right now afaik they all sold out. List was just under 5,000usd

Edit looks like one available in the US for 5k. It’s the cheapest. I wonder if they actually have it in stock....

Your only watch until you are 60 and you are 28 now?

That's why I told myself when I bought my first Speedmaster and yet, here I am, about to fill a 10-slot watch box.

I would go for the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch.
