Hi OF,

I have a vintage Omega Seamaster Chronometer 168.024 caliber 564 which I believe is using acrylic crystal part number PZ5031. According to cousinsuk, the dimension is 30.62 diameter & 4.70mm height.

While exploring options considering price & shipping fee (I am located in Malaysia), I came across with this NOS Stella Omega DeVille from ebay. Seller told me the diameter is the same, except the height is 4.5mm. Silver tension ring is present.

Must the replacement crystal be exactly the same part number? Given the slight difference in dimension will it fit perfectly to prevent any water ingress? Will it devalue the watch?

Thanks for your attention!

Better to use an Omega crystal - the design of the tension rings can differ between generic crystals and Omega crystals, so using a genuine one is what I recommend.

The alternative that I've found is for Omega DeVille though.

It's your watch, so completely up to you...

A professional watchmaker just told you that using a generic replacement isn't a good idea.

You should be able to find authorized Omega service in your country, and they can get an original crystal and install it.
