    Hi everyone,

I recently purchased an Omega vintage watch through ebay at CAD 585 and just received it.

Per the merchant, the watch was supposed to be in working condition, 18k gold, back is stainless steel.

However, when I received it, the watch's minute hand did not move at certain point so I took it to the official Omega repair centre under Swatch group.

Apparently I was advised that because this watch is an old model they have to send it to Swiss for a full service / overhall and was quoted CAD 780.

Should I return it back to the seller? Or is it worth it for me to spend CAD 780 on this watch?

DO NOT SEND IT TO OMEGA!!! Omega will restore to original condition and destroy any vintage value. Find a watchmaker with an Omega parts account and take it to them. It will likely be considerably cheaper, too.
My first question is why didn't you return it if it wasn't working, as you say the listing stated?

It's certainly not worth it from a monetary standpoint.

It doesn't need to go to Omega, a competent independent watchmaker could do the service for around a couple of hundred.

Should I send it back to the merchant for a refund then? Not sure if I made a good purchase as this is my first vintage watch..

Do you have a link to the listing?

How much do these usually go for? Do you know the model name or movement of this watch by any chance?

I really like the visual of the watch, not sure what I should do with this..

Unless you're in love with the watch, personally I'd get a refund and move on.

I would return it unless you have gone past the 14 days listed. The seller makes no claim in the listing about how it's working. Lots of mention about how it looks but not how well it works.

Darn it.. Okay thank you all! I will return the watch. Usually how much would this watch cost? I really like the look of it. I may hunt for another one that is in working condition.

If it has been more than 14 days, you're likely screwed on the return.

I would demand an immediate return on the basis of

this being bullshit. It's a gold capped (14K, by the way) steel case, but this makes it sound as if it is solid gold.

Check sold eBay listings for an approximate price. $500 isn’t too far off for a working watch in good original condition. Most in this style are in the “DeVille” line if that helps with the search. It’s a very common style so you won’t have to wait long to find another.. just find a good one per the “learn how to fish” article above.

I'd also advise following the for sale section of the forum. Much safer than the bay.

I'm tempted to ask if the OP wound the watch.

No I haven't wound the watch. Isn't this automatic? It runs fine but at certain point the watch's minute hand does not move, but the second hand still moves.
