    Hello everyone!

I just got a 1978 omega seamaster cal 166.0209. When I am trying to set the time I am getting this bad clicking sound, as if a gear is slipping. Any idea what this could be?

    Thanks everyone!!

If this is a mechanical watch, could be:

    - broken pilot at the tip of the stem.
    - broken yoke cover not indexing the detent properly.
    - weak sliding lever spring.
    - broken teeth in the setting pinion.
    - broken teeth in the intermediate setting pinion.
    - broken teeth in the minute wheel.
    - broken teeth in the cannon pinion.
    - might be something I have missed.

If quartz, could be many similar problems. Best have a watchmaker make the determination, and decide on what will be needed.

This is a Cal. 1020 series, and the dial side parts of this watch are thin and prone to damage if the watch isn't in the best condition. From what you describe, my guess would be that the cannon pinion may be too tight, and this can cause the teeth of the minute wheel to shear off. That is the most common reason I have seen for the problems you describe on this specific movement.
