Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, but i've been an Omega lover since my farther gave me his vintage Omega Deville when I was a kid. As a scandinavian living in the US i've always been attracted to the Omega Suveran and finally found one today. It isnt in the best of shape, but the price isnt bad. However, I'm a little hesitant because (1) the omega logo isnt present on the dial and (2) the numbers dont seem to match up to other 2400-1 that i've seen.

Can anyone confirm if Omega produced dials without the omega logo and if these watch seems legit?
Thank you all in advance.
Best,
Philip

Hi Philip, firstly welcome to the forum. Regarding the watch, the logo had been cleaned off.

Thank you Gavin. Do you know if this watch looks authentic? The movement seems to match, but the seller said the dial is original so I was a little concerned as the dial numbers were different than other similar numbers I had seen on other threads. They are asking less than $500 so it might be a good buy if it in fact is original. Any thoughts there?

It looks authentic, but all of the luminous material was taken off along with any trace of the printing that would ID the watch as an Omega.

The hands have also been replaced with ones that are too short. This watch would be good at about half the price if you had another Suveran that needed some case or movement parts, as those look pretty decent otherwise.

Hope this helps,

The "original" dial has been cleaned off its lume as mentioned by gator. I believe is been refinished before so you can see they did not bother to include the minute track. And I am with gator I will only buy this for parts.

Depending on the price and if you could find the right parts to complete the watch ? The watch looks very much like the watch sold on Tradera . Ebay company in Sweden http://www.tradera.com/item/190118/...klocka-fran-1944-ref-ck-2400-1#view-item-main

You could probably find hands to fit the watch, but they might not be the correct style. New dials are extremely difficult to find, you would need a donor and with a style as collectible as a Suveran, you're not going find an original dial at any reasonable price.

The watch at Tradera is the same watch. Serial numbers match.

Hope this helps,

I bought a Suveran in very similar condition a few years ago. Same run, too, 1944.

It, too, had lost the Omega logo, and looked spookily like yours. In my opinion, you are extremely unlikely to find a donor dial for this watch. In the end, I had mine refinished. It was a struggle; the "leading US dial company" made a total mess of it. In the end, I gave up on them. If you want more information on my route forward, please PM me.

The hands will be tricky to find, but once again, if you want to find a pair I may have a lead for you. Please PM me for more information if you change your mind.

USD$500 is more typical of a Suveran in good condition; this one I would rate as poor. A dial refinish will cost you around about USD$80, the hands around $20, so you must factor these costs in.

In my personal opinion, a dial in this condition is suitable for a re-finish; others will disagree, but I can't really see the point of a stripped dial, so…

There's a version of this dial which has the numeral bottoms facing into the centre of the dial and a version (like this one) whose numeral bottoms are oriented south. Both are correct. There are various colours; a bullseye version (like this one) and a solid background one.
