I ran across this Suveran from an online merchant that looks quite beautiful. Unfortunately there's no movement pic. The translated description: "Omega manufactured for the Swedish market called Suveran. Stainless steel case with 35mm ref 2400 mechanical hand-wound movement cal 30 T2 PC. Clock 1944 approx. Bracelet manufactured skin." The dial might be fully legit, but obviously, a closer, more detailed pic would be revealing, although it seems fine to me... The case looks nearly perfect, so I'm thinking it looks freshly machined, but then again, maybe the watch has sat somewhere hermetically sealed! What be your opinions? Has this one been 'altered' enough to loose collectability? I might offer $500... it's listed at $700.... might it be worth more?
If it's a hand wound movement then why is there, what looks like, a rubbing mark from a rotor on the inside case back?
That's interesting. I thought maybe it was a normal machine-made feature, but that wouldn't make much sense on the inside, I don't think... I've asked for a movement shot. Last time I asked for one, they sent one right away...
I was just about to post the same: "I need to ask for a close-up of that dial, cuz the more I look, the more I think it could be a re-dial"... the 'OMEGA' might not be quite right?
It's caused by the tabs on those springy movement holders. And if it's a redial it's not too bad. It may not be a grail collectable but it would make a nice Daily "Suverän". If you get it for an acceptable price it may be worth it.
Those were my thoughts, too. Thanks for the confirmation, Jim. Looking at some of his other watches, I think this seller has someone that does some reasonably good work on both the cases and the dials.. ...if you can really call it that!
What about this one? View attachment 170863 View attachment 170864 I think it may actually be better looking, with bits of gilt, but brings up the question: were some of these issued in gilt? If so, this one may be original. Same seller as the first watch at the top of this thread, and he says one of these two has the original dial, the other a refurb. I asked him which one, but he hasn't responded yet.
Don't think I'll call that gilt dial. Either the dial had been cleaned before or the paint had faded, I think.
Thanks... I guess I need to look up the definition of 'gilt'... Although, I guess I am feeling some for getting it wrong
You gett some whit a grey colour that reacted whit the lume they look a little bit metallic in the colour.
Just ask @marturx to find you a nice original Suveran - he has sold many of this model all of which are nicer than these examples!
Great idea. I don't know why I didn't think of him, since I know he's the 'Swedish Connection' . I wasn't really looking for a Suveran when I ran across these, but kinda got the bug. @Gavin , did you sell yours?
You better hurry up before prices gets totally out of control for them. It's only a matter of time before Mr Bacs gets to them, ha! ha!
Not yet. Hey don't push them up yet. I still want more. I don't know how I can miss that first one though I probably would still have been outbid by the museum. Congratulations!
