    Hey guys,

I don't know much about omega straps. I was wondering if anyone can give me a quick lesson.

I bought a watch and this strap came with it. I'm pretty sure the buckle is not original as the omega logo is odd looking and on other 'real' buckles, I think the tang lands between the legs of the Omega symbol. It also has no markings on the underside of the buckle.

On the strap itselft though, is there any way to tell if this is original or not? It's stamped with a number, 98000100. I can't find much about this number, though other real omega straps have numbers close to it, like 98000214 for example. Is this one legit? Is it modern or vintage? Are there any good references for Omega leather straps?

Strap looks right. I've seen that buckle in the past and you can sometimes just barely see it in old ads of the 70s, so I wouldn't condemn it just yet.

I agree with Tom on the strap. I have an original one of these buckles They have the engraving "Acier Inox" and a makers mark on the reverse.

It's a pretty good replica, but the symbol is a little off line.

    Thanks guys.

I'll put away the strap or now and toss the buckle. A plain one would be better than a fake one.

Meh, I don't agree, it's only a buckle. You're not proposing you buy a replica, you already have it. Just wear it IMO until you find a real Omega one to replace it with, I wouldn't replace it with a plain one but that's just me. If it really pains you that much to look at then toss it but I wouldn't bother. Fake watch on the other hand is a bit different.

Well, I have a couple RHD deployant clasps. Prefer those anyway as they're easier on the strap.

Fair enough then in that case.

    Strap is certainly legit - it's a 19 X 16 black "slim" croc strap.

    Cheers, Al
