While you can now put what was once an entire computer room into no more than a cell phone (or much less), watches went '180' the other direction.

For comparison, two dress watches. One is from the 1980's @ 34 mm. The other, not as big as a 44 mm, but huge by comparison. Especially, weight. Crazy...

I won't ever say that. It's all subjective. Further, as mentioned, one is from the 1980's. That was the taste or 'style' then. Have your tastes changed since the 80's? There are certainly many watches I don't like. I don't rip them, because somebody does like them. Instead, I just don't buy them and leave it at that. To each his own.

Yea the 9300 De Ville is a chunky boy, I do find the thickness of a lot of modern Omega 9300/9900 based Chronos a bit much, but these 44mm De Villes are only 11.5mm thick which is remarkably thin for a watch that large, and they have a case that tapers to the wrist a bit too in order to provide a better fit.

The size aside, I appreciate the dial design on the enamel version. Would love to see Omega try more different things with their typography.

Why would anyone with big league watch money waste it on a Rxxxx before they had acquired one of these? My own humble '06 De Ville has the 38.5 version of the same case, and it has a wonderfully opulent feel, as well as being good-looking - the stepped lines just put it a whole level above its counterparts today. Putting one of those dials into that case elevates it still further. Hoping to see one, one of these days! Tks for the article.
