The NZL-32 that this watch is named after is an extremely significant boat in America's Cup History. Bearing the name Black Magic, NZL-32 defeated the defending San Diego Yacht Club entry USA-36, under the name Young America, in an astonishing 0 - 5 whitewash. This was only the second time in the entire 144-year history of the America's Cup that the United States was defeated, following the victory of Australia II over Liberty in 1983. [..]

Thanks for this, I recently started looking at vintage yacht-timer watches and was wondering about modern variants!

The proportions of the counters vs. size of the dial really seem to be off to my eyes.

May be due to a movement used that is too small for the case size?

The layout is effectively the same as a Speedmaster reduced which is 39mm, but its in a 42mm case so slightly bigger but not hugely. I think the main reason it looks a bit odd in that way is that the top subdial is shrunk to allow for the regatta timer windows while the seconds subdial blends into the background. Its an unusual one for sure
