I’ve previously singled out the De Ville Prestige Chronograph as the best value modern Omega chronograph on the used market. The Hour Vision Chronograph powered by Calibre 9300 is a superb modern watch that comes in a close second, representing exceptional value to collectors. [..]

Hello! I recently read this article and decided to take the plunge and buy a black dial on bracelet from Japan. It's on its way to me now but I already know I will be needing links for it to fit properly. Does anyone know the bracelet reference so I can look up the correct links? I appreciate any help very much. Thanks in advance!

This deville chronograph is an exceptional value. I have owned the white/silver dial version on bracelet for several years and have considered also buying the black dial version. And that's on top of owning a black dial deville annual calendar and the first generation black dial hour vision! I just happen to think that the deville line especially the sapphire glass cased models are some of the best bang for your buck modern watches in the under $10k market.

When you handle these models in the flesh to me they have a higher fit and finish level than the current market deville watches. Especially for the sapphire case versions. I would say the same thing regarding the bracelet.

One of these went recently on eBay for $2,100 which is just insane value for the quality of watch, on bracelet no less. They’re going every day in Japan for about $3,100 USD in decent shape on bracelet buy it now, so the ones selling at auction go for considerably less.

It’s really just that the De Ville gets chronically overlooked, and Omega never put much effort into marketing it but this and the regular 3-hand Hour Vision with Sapphire case are a far better buy than a used Datejust or anything else in that segment at a far more approachable price point.

Even my two favorite enormously high depreciation brands, JLC and GO don’t offer anything quite as good that cheap.

I've already fallen down the rabbit hole with this watches having recently obtained my fourth one! Even though I know what to expect I always still marvel at how nice and well built they feel in hand when they arrive.

“The Hour Vision naming in relation to this watch is a bit of an odd one. I can see why they did it, given that the Hour Vision was the launch product for the Calibre 8500 movement while these De Ville Chronographs were the launch product for the Calibre 9300.”

This is incorrect. While you are right that the Hour Vision (crystal case band) was the launch product for the Cal.8500 the De Ville Omega Co-axial Chronograph (to give the watch its correct name) was most certainly not the launch product for the Cal.9300. That was the Speedmaster Co-axial Moonwatch from 2011 closely followed by the Planet Ocean Chronograph also from 2011 but released slightly later that year. The De Ville Co-axial Chronograph was not launched until Baselworld 2012 so cannot have launched the Cal.9300 movement. The name “Hour Vision” was not applied to the wholly steel or gold cased De Ville watches using the Cal.9300 until after the launch of the Master Chronometer Cal.8900 time and date and Annual Calendar Cal.8902 De Ville wholly steel and gold cased watches were launched in 2016. There were also two crystal case band versions with blue dials one with the Cal.8900 and an Annual Calendar with the Cal.8902. The appellation “Hour Vision” for these watches (apart from the blue dial crystal case band versions) seems to have been an attempt to rationalise the much reduced Master Chronometer De Ville range. From the launch of the original Cal.8500 De Ville Co-axial steel and gold cased watches around 2009 and the Annual Calendar versions around 2010 followed by the chronograph in 2012 the range was titled “De Ville Omega Co-axial” to try to make the distinction between the new in-house “Omega Co-axial” movements and the De Ville Prestige and previous De Ville Co-axial (some of which were still being sold such as the GMT chronograph) with ETA and Piguet based movements. It was perhaps too fine a point to be made with most buyers (or indeed commentators) and merely confused the range. Once the legacy Co-axial De Villes were gone from the catalogue the name De Ville (Omega) Co-axial continued until 2016 when the still confusing and technically incorrect “Hour Vision” name was used. The entire range, Master Chronometer Cal.8900/8901/8902/8903 and non-Master Chronometer Cal.9300, was discontinued in 2018.
