OK, so a few years ago I found this OMega Speedsonic Lobster on the side of the road while on a bike ride. It just doesn't seem right to scrap this piece for parts but very few people understand the tuning fork movement and therefore don't want to touch it. I replaced the battery and it does run however the date portion of the date wheel is stuck, the outer case needs a new gasket, the crystal needs to be replaced and the Lobster band of course was not found with the watch. What a mess! I have sourced a a new crystal from WatchCo but not sure what to do with it next. I'm debating on whether to sell it for parts or start a full restoration. I have no clue as to how much that may cost, even with out replacing the lobster bracelet. Any thoughts?

I don't think Omega will touch the tuning fork movements, which were originally licenced from Bulova. He'll need an Accutron specialist. A quick Google search will find a few out there, but since I don't have an Accutron, I can't make a recommedation.

    Hope this helps,

Hi Roberto, I have been traveling and just received your message. I have sent my speedsonic to an independent watchmaker who has restored many of these in the past. I have since purchased a mesh bracelet and omega clasp for it. Should all be completed and fully restored within the next month. Are you still interested? It will me mint and working perfectly once it returns.

Just bumped into this with a search, did you get it back? Good of you to have had one of these old beasts restored! I had mine restored last year by STS and now I'm afraid of wearing it as it (almost) looks like new ;-)

Not sure if Omega still will (and sorry to keep revivifying this oooold thread ;) ) but back in 2005 I had a Speedy Lobster completely overhauled by Bienne. Cost me about 1200 CHF at the time, so I can only imagine how expensive it would be today (if they would do it.)

Also, the day disc issue is a notorious problem on these, as they have plastic teeth that seem to break at the drop of a hat as they interlock with date disc, and only Omega has the day discs it seems. Even after mine was fully overhauled, the disc was problematic again within a year!

Cool looking watches but finicky movements, IMO, at least in the Speedsonic day-date configuration.
    Best,
    T.

Wonder how hard it would be to make metal replacement discs?

Right, that's where mine went last year and it cost me £460 (including VAT, ex-shipping) including a full service, plus glass, plus crown and all required movement parts (date discs included).

They no longer have pushers though so they can't guarantee waterproofness (not that I'd put it in the water) and they refinish the case by hand, they don't use a lapping machine like in Bienne, so it's not's perfect but still looks good overall.
