I wonder if this also applies to some 145.012s? As I understand it the change in reference numbers was made at the same time. I have also been searching for a satisfactory explanation for the delivery of several 145.012s, with serial numbers 20.552xxx to NASA in March 1964 (source http://www.hq.nasa.gov/alsj/omega.html). If Omega did the same thing with this reference it would make sense, as the watches delivered to NASA would be indistinguishable from 105.012s.

Years back, probably before the WUS server crash, someone posted a real 145.003, found in excellent condition, with original box and papers.

This one got everyone excited, including the late Chuck Maddox.

Sadly, I can not find this thread anymore, and Chuck never wrote an article on that one in his website.

    I just found it: here.

Sadly, no pics of the caseback, and I understand from the discussion that it had papers for a 145.003, but the caseback stamped with 105.003… same as Neil's.

Remember that one from years back - thanks for the link. It looks like it has 105.003 marked in the inner caseback so similar to the other examples posted here.

I landed in this thread after researching 145.003 as seems like there’s one coming up for auction.

Caseback engraving was not shown in the catalogue so I asked the auction house to provide a picture and they sent me the one below.

Looks a lot like the ones pictured in speedmaster101.com as it seems that the reference was added at a later stage than production, they didn’t provide a picture showing the entire case back but they mentioned this is the only reference therefore it would be lacking the double reference (105.003 + 145.003).

    Anyways here’s the picture

Interesting. The museum told me that 145.003 was an internal reference number and was never engraved in casebacks. They said they would not issue extracts with that reference number though they did confirm that mine was listed internally as a 145.003.

I would be wary of any sort of premium, though this wouldn't stope from buying for a nice watch.

    Interesting stuff!
