HI all. I've been trying to date a Speedmaster with a 48 million serial number movement. The Ilovemyspeedmaster site says it is from 1992, but the caseback carries an 87 in front of the model number. I will add photo here. Does the 87 denote the year it was produced? Thanks for any help you can provide IMG_3043.jpg !

That is not an 87, it says ST, it means it has a steel case.

So does everyone concur that this is a 1992, with a 48 million serial?

48m serial covers many years, that isn't enough to make a judgement. ILMS is very good though, if you used the whole serial it will most likely be right within a year or so.

Let’s see the dial and bezel. Also the movement can yield a clue in that time frame.

My own belief is that a 48.xxx serial is later than -82. I had a 45.xxx serial Speedy confirmed as an -82.

I have owned two Omega serviced pre 1978 watches with 48m movements. I understand there was a time and a place where Omega exchanged the movements at service and all the ones that might have had this done are 48m. I have seen several other 48m serials in a wide variety of cases. (Including a special MkII telestop because Omega confirmed the movement was a service movement).

I think 48m was put into production watches too, but when ever I see 48m I check to see if it’s an earlier watch.

    I have a 145.002, serial # 483****, with an extract from 1994. I am the original owner.

Not trying to completely derail this thread, but just curious why one of your postings is in private sales and one is in the dealer section?

Ok originally when you put 145.002 I thought it was a typo for a 145.003 but it was a typo for a 145.022

S**t. Yes, a typo indeed. i was wondering why you would be so curious about a '94 Speedy...

Yes a very rare (and possibly not even a “real reference”) 145.003 with a replacement movement is more interesting that a 94 speedy

Hi...I had posted earlier in the private sales but was then shifted to the dealer section after a ruling from mods. So now I post only on dealer forum.
