I have owned this watch since the early 70's or late 60's It was given to me new and I wore it for about 10 years it has been in a jewlery box forgotton for about 30+ years, I wound it and everything works keeps good time. The crystal is scratched and the band and case are also scratched but could be beffed out , I think. Is there anything special about this watch? It reads omega speedmaster on the case cover and the omega horseshoe under it nothing else.
Nice Mk II. I would have it serviced (even it it keeps good time), replace the crystal, and leave everything else alone.
Another great one that pops out from a drawer! Amazing what people have stored away and forgotten about. And it´s only the very tiniest top of the iceberg that we get to see here....
They are very good watches, not as valuable as the standard cased speedie pros but with the same cal. 861 movement, so reliable. The racing dial makes it stand out a bit. Definitely worth a service and replacing the crystal.
Sit still 30 years in a jewelry box , after wounding and it become alive and keep good time ....This should tell you that how special this watch should be . With 861 , this should not be too hard to find a good watch clinic to provide service ( clear and lubricate 861 BUT not heavily polish case please ) with new Crystal to your watch . This special piece will be restored and accompany with you for many coming years. Enjoy your watch .
The bracelet magician! http://www.wristtimes.com/blog-1/2014/6/6/michael-young-bracelet-magician (I haven't used his services - yet - but others have highly recommended him) Edit, his site is actually here: http://www.classicwatchrepair.com/
It's funny that something that I have been saving for has been laying in someone's drawer forgotten for 30 years! Just goes to show what is important for one person, may not be for another. Please have it serviced before you start using it, and for the love of God, don't have it polished.
I believe the crystal is one piece with the tachy scale, and will need to be replaced all at once. Unfortunately, I believe it's a mineral crystal, which is kind of between sapphire and plexi with none of the benefits. However, once you've done a full service, crystal replacement, and possibly a gentle case refreshing it will look and work like aces. Congrats on the find.
I think I am just going to wear it for a while, see what happens I am getting quite comfortable with it. brings back memories and I am kind of anti bling.
