    Hi all,

I bought myself a Rolex Submariner bi-metal about 5 years ago and I love it but I'm looking for a more mid priced watch that I can wear daily.

I've fallen in love with the Omega Moonwatch.

After reading around a bit I've come to the conclusion that the hesalite front face and sapphire case back are the way to go. Sadly, these don't appear to be made anymore as they're sapphire front if you want the clear case back.

Does anyone know where I can find one? Price wise it has to be sub £3.2k as I can get a brand new sapphire front and back for that price so I can't justify paying more for a pre owned.

    Thanks

Japanese sellers on Ebay seem to be the most reliable source of them being available, but I can't say whether or not this is the best route for you.

They'll be for sale on here at least once every two months. But go look at one in the flesh (if you haven't), I was adamant I wanted a hesalite sandwich for a few reasons until I saw the sapphire sandwich in the "flesh". Loved it, bought it, don't regret it one bit. I looked at thousands of pictures and read countless opinions but seeing and holding will tell you all you need to know either way.

If you're looking for a 3572.50, note that there are at least three main variants:
    • Tritium dial, yellow-gilded 863 movement, with either 17 or 18 jewels. Produced around 1995-1997.

    • Tritium dial, rhodium ("white gold") plated 1863 movement (18 jewels). Produced around 1997.

    • Luminova dial, rhodium ("white gold") plated 1863 movement (18 jewels). Produced around 1997-2003.
The movements are basically the same, except for the finishing (and an extra jewel that might be more cosmetic than functional).

While the 1863 movement is nice, the yellow-gilded 863 movement is the best-looking display movement Omega has produced, as long as you like the look of gold. Compare this 863 picture with the 1863.

Note that these used watches often need a servicing and, once you take that into account, you're probably paying near to or more than the cost of a new sapphire sandwich. That's just how it is.

Hi and welcome,I got a 3592.50,which is a slightly earlier model with the yellow gilded movement & tritium markers (turn a nice golden brown color for that 'vintage' look, but sadly gave up glowing years ago :(,the later models have more modern markers that still glow,so depends really if you want an old watch that looks old or a old watch that looks new,if you get what I mean?
Also I got mine from Japan, word of warning,if buying from non eu,the import duties can be high if you get collared by customs!
    Enjoy the search.

Nice rundown, but pretty sure Omega had switched over from 17 to 18 jewel movements during the late 3592 era and no 3572s ever had 17 jewels. Also around that time the plating went from copper to gold. Not 100% certain though, as there might be some very, very early transitional 3592/3572s where there was much mixing and matching between movements, plating, jewels, jewel writing, etc.

The 3572 is such a fantastic piece and a keeper for sure, hope the OP can grab one.

I'm hating it when someone has a Submariner, considering it as the most precious watch and is looking for a Speedmaster as a daily rocker. It's like a stab in my heart because I adore the Speedy so much and it's by far not a watch of lesser value.

No offence to all Sub owners meant, I do recognise the important history of the Submariner, but it's not fair! If I could keep only one watch it would always be a Speedy.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over someone's opinion of his/her watch.

I do not loose any sleep but aren't we all human beings with a certain level of emotions?

Yeah, you're right. I was looking at the page for the 3572.50 in the Moonwatch Only book, not realizing that they'd put both the 3592.50 and 3572.50 in the same entry.

Oh, I forgot to say please.

Ah, I didn't check the ref number, just assumed it was a 3572.50 given the thread.

In fairness, the bi metal Sub is a more precious watch whether you like it or not - a standard SS Sub maybe not so much.

The OP stated he wants a more practical every day watch. I am imagining the price he paid for the bi metal Sub along with the soft yellow gold centre links being a scratch magnet means its probably not the best choice as a practical everyday watch, more a keeper for special occasions.
