    Hello all,
New to the forum as you can obviously see, so let me please do a little introduction before entering the particular issue with my Speedmaster.

Watch collector and enthusiast for some years now, I started this hobby like many of you I take, with Omegas. My first good watch, if one can say this, was a Seamaster Bond from 1996, gift from my parents and the first watch I bought was a dressed gold plated Seamaster too back in the late 90s. This continued with the Speedmaster at hand, a 300M, reference 165024, a couple of 120s and a vintage SHOM 200m. My collecting pattern has evolved through the years but mainly focus on vintage divers, some chronos and military issued pieces. Unfortunately, did not get an issued 300 SM when they were still affordable but who could guess what is happening with prices now a days....

My participation, time permitting is mostly on MWR and in some of the Spanish forums but I hope to contribute here as well but of course within my limits (i.e. knowledge).

So going back to the issue at hand and taking into account that collecting has become an expensive activity, I have decided to the best of my ability to shapen up some of my pieces and in particular my Omegas. Although I enjoy wearing all my pieces, they are not pristine and in some cases, parts would need to be replaced.

In this case, the dial on my 69 Speedy was probably replaced in the 70s with a 78 version, see picture. So my question, taking into account that the rest of the watch is original, including the DON bezel, is to understand how hard would be to find a correct step one and how much more or less they go for. The watch as is looks good and love to wear it but if possible would like to make it right.

Thanks in advance for reading and for your help.

    Cheers!

Correct step dials can be found occasionally. Condition varies greatly and its just a matter of price, although I'm not sure of the current price range.

Here you have two cheap recent examples:

A little beat up for my taste:

This one looks awesome compared to a replacement, and defenitely a great price:

I dont think the price will be the problem, rather the fastidiousness of waiting for the right one at the right price.

    Good luck

Thanks! This is encouraging. I will certainly now search regularly, wished I had started a bit earlier.

Surely a step dial would be correct for a '69? Looks good though.

Yes, why? Do you see anything wrong?

Doesn't look like a step dial from the picture which would make it correct for a 74 or 76.

Ah. Maybe it’s just the photos. I’m struggling to see the step!

The watch is with my watchmaker. Sure it is a step dial but will recover again the sales add. I think it's probably the picture.

Thanks for the compliment on the bezel!

It's either the picture or..I see a typo that usually is not on the stepped dials, joined "S" and "p" and long "r" in Speedmaster.

I think it is a domed dial from -74. Better pictures in harsher lighting will make it clear.
