What is the general opinion about this watch? It's rare. 357 units. One is in the omega boutique in Houston for $16k. I have another that has been offered to me at under $10k. The general consensus I have come to is that it's a really cool, limited edition watch but not worth $10k or close to it. I have seen several for sale around $10k and none seem to be moving. Heck, the boutique has a new unsold one that apparently has been sitting their for many years. The main drawback. The Omega automatic in-house calibre 3612, a split seconds —Rattrapante movement appears to be a valjoux 7750 based movement. So it's not even a true Omega movement . . . Whatever that means. Anyway, I'm on the fence about this one. I like the watch. But the price . . . . Oh that price . . . http://www.watchcollectinglifestyle...ronograph-doesnt-get-any-better-for-the-price http://www.omegawatches.com/collect...t-seconds-co-axial-chronograph/31130445101001
These are way too much cash for what it is, looks super cool though. There are a few out there with a retail of about $15k Ive seen these sell for 8-9k - a seller on here had one ages ago and that took some shifting.
Another watch that has to be seen and felt to be truly appreciated... The downside of < 400 pieces is that you don't get that frequent picture posting, stranger on the train, magazine ad, type of exposure that will inspire emotions enough to supercede the price.... I do agree that it was priced aggressively... But it is gorgeous
Omega made a pile of Speedmaster split seconds models that were mediocre looking based on the 7750, then they made this one and the dial is just amazing, definitely the best of the breed. I have seen these go in the 6k range the last couple of times a used one came up on eBay and for that money its not bad at all really.
Totally Agree, which is why I passed on it. Part of the Price is based n the fact that this is the first tachymetre bezel ever to be rendered in Ceramic, and at the time, plying with the Zirconium alloy was probably a pricey endeavor, but to roll that much of the cost into the watch was a bit too much. Especially during a time when the idea of paying that much, and full MSRP for Omega was unheard of.. There are so many other watches that give you more for the price... I'd get the 9300 Ti Blue Speedy in a heart beat before the SS... But I do Agree, that at ~ 6k...I would jump. So don't let your hate for the price turn you away from a killer watch... it is truly stunning, just priced and marketed wrong. At the Boutique, they will tell you that for these discontinued models that don't sell, they ship them back to Switzerland, and Stephen Urquhart stomps on them, so that they will never be available again... don't fall for that....
Speak of the devil, one just appeared no reserved on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMEGA-SPEED...817?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a40b6339Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Watch gods were listening perhaps?
Not that I am an expert or one to listen to with watch knowledge on here. But I saw one and tried it on at the King of Prussia boutiq, use. And it was awesome. The definition in the hour and second markers were unique. It looked like the liquid metal PO. But I would choose a 1957 speech or a new side of the moon instead.
