    Hi all

I am planning getting a Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch for a longer time. Now that I turn 30 this year, I want to realize that plan :).

I was already at the AD to compare Saphire and Hesalite versions (=> Hesalite for the win). Then I saw that this year caliber 321 will return and now I am asking myself, if it's still 'worth' to buy this watch now or otherwise wait on this release. Moneywise I am not willing spending much more on a version with 321 caliber.

What do you guys think about it?

    Thanks & greetings

You need to define 'much more'. I already think the new super limited edition cal 321 will be over the roof expensive so....

The 321 Moonwatch will cost 10K-12K and only 2000 will be made each year (not limited but because they will be handmade)

Sounds pricey but I’m not too knowledgeable on the current newer Speedy’s, but have you considered a pre owned 3572 or 3570 etc.

Price point has been covered. Potentially.

The thing you haven't factored in, is the possibility the new 321 watch may be severely restricted as to parts availability to the point where only Swatch will be able to service it.
There will be a premium attached with it.

The current Hesalite Speedy Pro with the 1961 movement can be serviced more readily with more cost effective options available.
As Al has commented previously. Get them while you can.
I am inclined to take this reasoned advise seriously. In fact I was happily just a little ahead of the game on that one. That's assuming you place a high priority on buying new.
A new Hesalite speedy Pro is great value but a nice second hand one is much better value.

Thank you for your fast responses :).

With much more I think about an uppricing not above 800$. What would bug me is, if the acutal Speedmaster with 861 would be totally replaced as soon as I bought it. But as AntonisCy writes, there must be expected very expensive watches coming with 321.

Yes i really like the 3572 with the display caseback and hesalite front. But as my first high priced watch and something i want to wear daily I am considering buying a (more) new one.

    Cheers

1961 movement? I don’t know that one. Do you mean 1861?

    Thanks for your advice.

I thought there maybe could be a 1:1 replacement of the 1861 Speedmaster with the 321 Speedmaster as I didn't knew exactly about the low availability and exclusiveness of the 321 movement.

More likely it will be replaces with a co-axial I believe. Maybe not just yet though

I doubt that a 321 speedmaster master will be out soon- you would probably have to wait for some time and it will be more expensive

The inside information also says that most probably this watch wont be mentioned with the new announcements in May!

The 321 will be very limited and not going back into production. This is confirmed.

The 3861 which was announced for the 50th is a coaxial variant of the 1861/861 may or may not go into regular production. We just don’t know at this point.

That being said pre 1999 tritium speedmasters will always hold value over luminova pieces. The 861 is a solid workhorse of a movement, that has no downsides.

I’m a big fan of the 861-1861 movement. Great reliability, serviceable and parts can be sourced.

Thank you guys for your inputs on this topic. I will decide in the next days / weeks and will keep you updated on the purchasing decision.

The good thing is, that also with 1861/861 I have no problems on going to space missions, even after releasing the 321 movement :p...

Yes the for all intents and purposes identical 861/1861 where recertified in 78-79 for the shuttle. And are still worn outside the launch recovery suits and by Russian cosmonauts during EVA.
