Wanted to see if anyone had gotten their speedmaster 3861 serviced and polished. Looking at the bracelet it looks like it would be a pain in the ass for refinish and with all the horror stories I keep reading about omega. I am not sure if I want to send it to them.

Any feedback would be great!

You might want to look into some laser-welding services. I was considering contacting watchesspa in Poland for a twisted-lug type case after I saw these results:

That said, be aware that welding will make your case look like new at nontrivial cost.
I follow him on Insta as well, he does some real magic. Wonder what the costs would be.

Not sure why you would consider welding unless there was a serious ding, you can't blanket weld a case to add a layer, it is a process for filling holes. Swiss Time Services offer Laser welding along with other more usual servicing and refinishing services. Their work is excellent so as long as you want your watch to look brand new, that is one option, in the UK at least. I would hesitate to do it to an older piece with patina I wanted to respect or retain though since the fixed area will look super tidy and not match the rest any longer.

The horror stories are usually from sending vintage to Omega. This is a relatively new pc. Does it need service? What’s causing you to inquire?

Omega will make a 3861 look like new again, as far as they can. I wouldn't worry about that.

Resurrecting this thread as I’m actually sending my old Datejust up to prime time watches for exactly this. They’re blanket welding the lugs to thicken them up from years of over polishing. I can report back with the results if anyone’s interested with before and after pictures. It’s not cheap but they’ve told me they can do it
