For sale is an Omega Speedmaster 145.022, caliber 861. It was purchased from the original owner’s wife, who does not recall if it has ever been serviced. I would of course recommend a service. The wife stated that is was originally purchased in the very early 70’s, which I believe makes sense given the stepped dial and case back on the watch. The watch winds nicely and all functions appear to work, chrono resets to zero and it keeps time. Crystal is signed, but scratched and needs a polish. The entire watch could actually use a nice cleaning 😀. Case and stepped-dial are both very nice, the bezel has a slight fade. I am not sure if the hands have been changed in the past, I am sure experts will be along shortly to let us know if they have. I have not opened the back to get a picture of the movement. No bracelet included, watch comes on the strap pictured.

That is a very corroded case for that money.

That is a very corroded case for that money.

I didn't put much work into cleaning it up because I assumed the buyer would send it in for a service/bath. I cleaned off the heaver "crust" and it seems that all of the dirty areas come clean with some elbow grease. Because I am new to this and don't have anywhere near your level of expertise (who does?), is there a specific portion of the case that is "corroded?" To me, corrosion implies damage, and I thought it was just dirty.

Some alcohol, some Q-Tips and some wooden toothpicks
will remove the crud and expose any areas of concern
without doing any damage

I saw the black marks in the photo of the crown and pushers, between the bezel and case.

Looking again, I realize that these marks can potrude out rather than eaten in - the disadvantage of 2D!

If all that is dirt, not corrosion, then it's a great buy.

Well done!
