Q: Why were these mission logo Speedies not so popular?
A: Most Speedmaster fans have little awareness of the intricate stories of manned spaceflight

It was a superb idea to use the subtle mission logo patches in the seconds subdial.
At least we see what it is, compared to the 2019 Buzz Aldrin in the seconds subdial.
Over the years we have highlighted a few of those intricate stories of manned spaceflight:
.
1. Speedmaster chronographs worn underneath the space suit:
.
2. Speedmaster Alaska Project flown-in-space
.
3. NASA Speedmaster selection and where are these NASA-issued Speedies nowadays
.

Picture thanks to the BBC Sky at Night, who have located the whereabouts of the 3 LRVs. If you recharge the batteries would the still work ?

Thats so cool!

As soon as musk opens his satellite factory up ther, I am off with my extencion cord. That lunar rover has always been the coolest car ever to me. Probably the most expensive car ever too. So when its just sitting around, I would like to go for a spin, for free.

The recent Fratellowatches talk about the Omega Speedmaster was excellent:
Fratello Talks: The Ultimate Omega Speedmaster Debate - Which Model Defines The Legend?
Very interesting to talk about the little details of the Omega Speedmaster, stepped dial, lume, font of the text, DON, hesalite, 321, 861...
However if the question literally is about the (manned spaceflight) legend, we need to talk about 1966 NASA astronauts' feedback. They wanted a brushed matte polish case chronograph with more legible dial & sub dials, clear lume and a practical 60 seconds bezel.
How many times have we been told by spacefarers: “a Tachymètre bezel is useless in space!"
Fratellowatches summarised it nicely in their September 2024 article entitled:
Speedy Tuesday: My Dream Speedmaster Is An Impossible-To-Find NASA Watch
2027 marks the 70th anniversary of the Omega Speedmaster, will the aficionados get their NASA styled dream Speedie or will we have to wait till 2032?
Last but not least, the Speedmaster needs a smaller box, so please bring back the original 9 x 9 x 8 cm crater-style box in an anniversary styling!

I came close , a 60 minutes bezel makes so much more sense.

I agree 👍

What I am still looking for is the higher bezel support...

Awesome @hansmaulwurf , so it is your watch i saw on Fratello ?

Maybe a true watch/clockmaker can make a higher bezel suport ring for you on a lath ? They can work wonders with metal.

Yours has that sign , like my caseback , with "the one AND only watch worn on the moon" and ironically Dave Scott wore the Bulova chronograph watch on the moon during Apollo 15. He had that with him as his personal watch - i am not aware of some kind of sponsering by Bulova.

via @SpeedyPhill

And from the Universal Geneve catalogue this is the original version, and today it is available as Lunar Pilot watch from Bulova in a HF quartz version.

Here's Dave Scott's Bulova.

Pictured nabbed from Bulova's site.

Lets see if there are more Gemini, Apollo and Skylab to found here among the members.

Added the matching movement spacer ( enlargement ring ) so the crystal back i modified with the Apollo 15 logo is now correctly supported. And running smooth after service !
