Yesterday I was in one of my local watch shop and noticed they had a Speedmaster Mark II reissue. I had no heard or seen anything about this and was quite shocked. Upon checking the Omega website I saw it and was able to confirm it is a reissue. Did I miss something on the usual places: Fratello, Ablogtowatch...

I will say the the watch is excellent and the details and amazing. Sunburst case with a nice polished edge on case. Dial is gorgeous matte finish.

I actually wore one for a while. My opinion is, aside from the easy adjust clasp, the coaxial does not bring enough to the table for me to choose it over a vintage Mk2. Part of it is maybe it was too faithful to the original.

This isn't like the Speedy / SM300 / Railmaster reissue where the originals were hard to acquire. The MK2 is cheap and easy to find.

Compare to the ridiculous prices of speedies from the 60s u are correct MKII are cheap but try to find one that has not been polished to oblivion w box papers and so on and the chase becomes a lot harder and even so then you have to add the service cost. So I still would not consider them cheap. My 2 cents

Compared to vintage/new Speedmaster Pro and new Mark II it is cheap. Maybe not in your book, but overall it is. Try and get one of the above mentioned for the price of a vintage Mark II, service included. It’s probably the most affordable 861 and that’s why I got one

Whew, this looked like a pretty good deal the other day. I'm glad I didn't see it! http://forums.watchuseek.com/f29/om...70-mark-ii-1970-lovely-cond-sold-4512527.html

Only a good deal if you like mirror-finished cases.

As for the new Mark II the market price is well below the MSRP. Granted it has the older coaxial movement which is based off the 7750, but it's still very robust if not as refined as the in-house models. The case finishing is amazing and my favorite outside the ceramic offerings.

Unpolished with still the original finish is quite easy to find and cheap. Cheaper than a modern Coaxial Mark2 (last time I checked - last yr), cheaper than a modern Speedy Pro, and definitely cheaper than a 1970s Speedy Pro of the same vintage. With box and papers more difficult, but then that goes with most nice watches from the early 70s.

True on all counts but cost is all relative.
I spent twice as much on my new reissue mkII vs my old mkII so yes on paper the original MKII is a bargain...

I saw the new MK II on the orange and was blown away. But I'll still go for the Speedy moonwatch first. Then the Snoopy or ST or the 57 reissue next. The new MK II will be after I got the above.
