    Dear all,
i´m realy unsure about the case of this Mark II.

The Pictures are so different from each angle.

The watch should be from 1970/71, the last service was done during the 90´s, the private seller says.

Is it possible they polished the case in the 90´s and the watch looks like that 30 years later or is it overpolished and new.

Or does a watch from this period looks like that and the shiny case is just a reflection from the light ?

I could ask the seller to meet him and the watch personaly, but i don´t want to send him away if the watch is not as i would expect it.

I realy appreciate your help, so thanks in advance

I don't see the relevance of when or how it has got to this state. It is not the worst, and still has its shape, but the sunburst brush has gone. It would need lapping to make it acceptable again.

I recall a post about someone based in the USA that was able to make miracles with a beaten up Mark II case.

@Wuza72 I guess it boils down to how much they are asking, if the movement is still in good state and if you are willing to spend time+money to bring it back to its original glory.

    Thank you :)

    The seller want´s 1.800 EUR (~2.000 USD).

To be honest i was thinking about a case restoration but Tmorehouse is located in the US and i´m living in germany.

This could be a verry expensive game :)

@wuza there is a mark II for sale here in the forum which got a pristine case for pretty much the same price.

The only issue was the dial, which is a simpler fix.

As others have said , definitely polished, but not beyond salvageable back to a decent state. Plenty metal there to work with, if you are in Germany then you could use STS in the UK for a case refurb as they have the relevant tooling and knowhow.

That sounds a high asking price for condition though, I think you can do better.

    Good luck.

I think you maybe misreading the sticky. You only need 200 to sell. Any number to buy as long as the person you are buying from feels comfortable about selling to you.

I certainly wouldnt buy the one you showed. The one on the sales forum here is much nicer. However IMO hang out for a racing dial. Here is mine. The case is a bit rough but still has the radial brushing visible IMG_0101.jpg

    Thanks for your estimation

I have no hurry, thats the good part of the story, but sometimes i´m pushing my stress level higer then needed.

Funny thing, i have seen a Mark II with a racing dial, like yours and now it is time to do some more research again ::book::.

The one on OF is nice but on the pictures the lume seems to far gone, maybe i´m wrong and the pictures are the probem.
The box indeed is a verry nice addon i would prefer :)

    Many thanks

That watch has sold this week. It was a reluctant sale as I really enjoyed it but you can’t keep em all. Indeed the lume wasn’t perfect but still all there. It never bothered me. A lot of times the dial will have been replaced with a service dial. In that case there’s no T printed on the dial so buyer beware. Good luck!
