Today, I had my watchmaker adjust the crystal on my watch, and he inadvertently bent the chrono minute (airplane) hand and stained the 2 o'clock marker. Can anyone provide me with urgent advice? This is an extremely stressful situation for me.

As we all know, the original hands and dial of the 376.0822 are irreplaceable.

 

That hand is not irreplaceable. There are many Lemania 5100 based watches with that hand.

Untrue. Omega's 376.0822 used a special hand.

 

The main hour and minute hand are unique to this reference as they are the moon watch hands sized for the 1045 movement (as opposed to say the stubby hour and minute hand in the mark series). As far as I know, all the others are the same. You should be able to pick up some Mark 4.5 hands or any other 1045 or L5100 hands and use the airplane hand.

 

Are you sure about this? I specifically remember reading that the chrono second and minute hands were EXTRA long on this Speedmaster variant. Service hands are unacceptable. Super worried here.

 

Why not have the hand fixed? It's not broken. Just bent. Did the paint get knocked off, too? Or was is like that originally? I don't see a stain at 2 but I do see missing lume and paint at 3.

 

Paint got knocked off the minute chrono hand, too. I'm not sure it can be repaired because they would have to match the white paint color perfectly.

Missing lume and paint at 3 was already the case when I purchased the watch.

 

Real easy, send to LA Watch Works...they will fix everything up.

First of all, calm down, it's not like someone got ketchup on the Magna Carta.

It's unfortunate, but lume plots do degrade. My personal opinion im would be that trying to 'fix' the plot would make it worse. It's a very slight Mark and now part of the history of the watch.

If the hand is badly bent, get it straightened and see if so much paint is lost that it needs repainting. If it does and your not happy, consider it a temp repsir while you keep an eye out for a new one.

 

Have you had experience with them before? That's Eric Ku's company, right?

 

Is your watchmaker gonna compensate you? I would be livid with him.. He should pay for this.. Does he realize what he's done?
Also, why were you "adjusting the crystal"? What was wrong with it? After all the bragging over this watch you couldn't leave well enough alone?

Worst case, put a service hand on while the original is being repaired, and repainted to your standard.

What idiot watchmaker damages the hands and dial when working on the watch. You assemble the crystal and case first then insert movement and close it up...
