    Dear Omega experts,

I'm new to this world and I'm looking for an Omega Speedmaster from 1972.

Would anyone be so kind to offer advice on this beauty https://www.chrono24.de/omega/speedmaster-professional-moonwatch--id7292962.htm
It comes without papers and I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to buy it.
I asked for pictures showing the reference number.

Sorry – There is probably a thread for this kind of advice, but I didn't find it.

Thank you, any help is greatly appriciated!

Did you get a pic of the original dial. At least he admits that it has been replaced.

Bezel is not original correct for 1972.

No pic of the movement. Get the serial number and check it on 'I love Speedmasters'

    Do the hands look original/repainted?

If you are looking for a vintage piece, this one might be dissapointing as the main distinctive ( and attractive) part is missing, a step dial. The bezel is also a recent replacement.
A 1972 would be most likely a 145.022-71 model, produced from around 1972. If I were you I'd check the sales section here, there is a very nice one offered. You might need to go beyond 3,5k Euro, but that would be worth it. https://omegaforums.net/threads/speedmaster-145-022-71-step-dial-moonwatch-£3900.66929/
Otherwise you should consider a modern one.

Thank you so much!!! This is all absolutely fantastic advice.

I post the picture of the movement I just received anyway. As you can see the last digits of the number on the lower right have been striked through. As I said - I'm a complete newcomer here, but somehow I also got the feeling there is something strange going on here.

interesting......the movement number 30mill indicates 69/70 period but the delrin brake only came into use on mid 70's movements.

While not swapped in the course of a service. It could be a service part.

Some other parts that should be brass in a 71 are not in this movement but @Foo2rama is correct could be service replacements.

Man, as @gemini4 said, run away... You can get a much better one out there (that service dial is horrible ::puke::).

Thank you everyone! I won't go for this one.

For budget and hassle reasons I might actually go for a more recent model and will look into the 1990s...

    Thanks again!

No objections and the price is fair, but if you can stretch youself a bit, they got this one too, would be even nicer, tritium and display back.

If you like the vintage aesthetic ie with Tritium Dial but from the 90s then I’d go for this one. Great value - you could replace the bezel if you wanted relatively cheaply.
Seller is a very highly regarded member of our Forum - with a warranty too.
My advice Steer clear of the Bay - there are too many Sharks swimming amongst the friendly fish!

Thank you! Yes, this one is nicer, but it's unfortunately beyond my current range of investment and I'm still trying to figure out whether to go for vintage Tritium or 'modern'.

    Thanks again, everyone!

After some more contemplation and realizing that I'm not the biggest fan of the yellowish Tritium fading, I decided to for a more recent model with Superluminova dial. On the other hand, it should be as old as possible as I do like the wear, so I'm thinking of something between 1998 and 2000, ideally shipping within the EU... Well, I'll be patient and look around a bit more.
