I agree, but that laser-ablated moon relief on the blackened main plate and bridges, with its texture visible through the skeletonized dial, is truly mesmerizing.

It hasn’t been a hit with everyone.
Some purists feel it strays too far from the classic Speedmaster vibe we/they love. The new Caliber 3869 is technically impressive, but with little a stretch you can get the historical charm of the 321
maybe 44.25mm it’s large and more modern than the traditional 42mm steel Moonwatch. Some folks just aren’t into the bigger, flashier look.
Not everyone feels the added features justify the bump in price. For some reasons... I still like it 😂
Definitely gimmicky, but a very fun, sporty, and modern alternative to a watch that has been manufactured for forever. 44.25mm size, but it's not that much bigger than a standard Moonwatch... about 1 extra mm per side, and the all-black ceramic case helps hide its size. Thickness is about the same.
I have the older version:
Personally, I'm not a fan of the rally strap. It works way better with the standard DSotM nylon/codura strap, but the red stitching of the underside with the yellow gives it a McDonald's-like theme. Nothing that a fabric marker can't fix:
I think the newer version looks slightly better with the removal of the yellow color on the Tachymetre text of the bezel, but it loses the lume all-around too 🙁
This MK2 Version is best IMO especially the beautiful remake of the dial and new movemnt. Indeed we will miss the Crown lume ( dont like the bezel lume from MK1 , thanks god it is not in MK2 anymore ) , but worth it.
Mine on the way !
Will buy the leather strap + pin buckle from MK1 version and Nato.
