Hi all I promised a member to post some pictures of my speed Apollo XI 1969 full gold well known to collectors This model make me dream and put my head in the moon Probably one of the most beautiful gold chronographs from Omega and possibly from the 'space age' era. Produced in 1969 in limited numbers (1014 total) to commemorate the first manned landing on the moon, complete with 18k yellow gold Omega bracelet. The first 39 watches were given to the astronauts with the exception of number 1 which was reserved for President Richard Nixon. Each watch was engraved with the name of the recipient astronaut on the back. The remaining 975 watches were engraved on the back "OMEGA SPEEDMASTER - APOLLO XI 1969 - THE FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON". The original examples of these 18k Gold BA 145.022 Speedmasters with the unique burgundy bezels and solid gold dials were presented to Astronauts, NASA officials, and select US government officials at a special gala dinner on November 25, 1969, as detailed by Brad “Watchcarefully” Jacobs in his Gold Apollo Speedmaster article The watches are also discussed in the Omega Speedmaster Table originally created by Omega factory historian Marco Richon and formatted, appended and hosted by the late Chuck Maddox and further discussed in Chuck’s Guide to Speedmaster Moonwatch Casebacks. ( i take all this information on the net ) I had in the past 262 number that I sold I buy this one more beautiful from his first owner I am waiting archive certificate from Omega some photos for the pleasure of sharing I must change the plexi glass and a full-service 861 caliber I want my watch remains as in the past it is important to conserve as much a watch in his Original condition otherwise you remove a part of his past that's my opinion thank you .
I want one of these I think. Never went for the sold gold with gold bracelet watch, but this might be the exception Now if i could get an astronaut's.....
Thank you for all your comment the pictures do not do it justice more beautiful in real life I wish that you find your.
No he's selling it on consignment. I actually know the owner, I've bought from him personally in the past. It's £9000, but probably negotiable. The AD is in Ruislip, the owners a great guy. I've done watch fairs and traded with him for years. He's usually got a few nice second hand pieces, some of them mine.
Hi all, Not really a fan of solid gold watches but these gold Speedmaster's with all that history really are something else and congratulations to omegasaoud on your great pick up. When you consider how much some stainless steel Rolex watches cost without any real history £9000 for that solid gold Speedmaster looks like a bargain and not something you are likely to see on anyone else's wrist either. Marc
I had one. It's a great watch with a nice hefty feel to it. I was feeling tight on cash and with some reluctance sold it to my close friend, so at least I still get to see it every week. And while that price may (or may not) seem high, they don't seem to trade very often and it is hard to know how many have survived. When I sold mine, one was being offered (on Chrono 24 if memory serves) for $31,000. Wishful thinking maybe, but that's how things are with rarish pieces.
I thought the Magpie bought one of these already? Not long before his activity dipped here..? Could be that even he had his fill of gold with this one...
