Omega Speedmaster 38mm - Anti Reflex Glass never more again.

In June 2025 I bought a brand new Omega Speedmaster 38mm. This watch has been mainly stored in a watch mover. I have been wearing it about 10 times in total. But now I have the same problem that the anti-reflex coating is removing at the edges - which looks odd.
Even though the watch is still within guarantee Omega Service is offering me to remove the whole glass for €450.
In my honest opinion … This is absolutely unacceptable for a watch with a buy price for more than €7000 which is one year old.
I am owning as well a 30 years old Omega Seamaster, which is in top shape and no scratches on the sapphire glass . But it seems the quality of the new watches is not the same like the old ones.

With this experience I will never ever buy any Omega watches and rather move to Rolex Models with adequate quality.

A very unsatisfied and disappointed ex Omega customer

This reminds of the people that make a post on social media that they are unfollowing someone. The common response is that this isn't an airport, no need to announce your departure.

You do realize that you can remove the anti-reflective coating (not "anti reflex") with a tube of polyWatch and an eyeglass cleaning cloth? It will cost you $10. If you're not happy with Omega's crystal, there are generic crystals that will work. But If you prefer to go with Rolex, that's up to you. Just so you know, Rolex has had it's own QA problems, just like every other manufacturers.

What a strange issue. Is your winder in an environmentally sealed room with a noxious atmosphere?

Welcome to Omega Forum @MMetzner, the biggest Omega fan-boy site on the net. We do not condone any critic of Omegas product or service, well actually we can accept one a week and you are the second I am afraid.

Secondly the unfavourably comparison of the Speedmaster (so called even thou its a "redused", scoff) vs The Seamaster have brought a tear to many Speedmaster afficinados eye. We are a few, but hardened Seamaster followers that live hidden in the mountains here on Omega forum and we certainly appreciate your comparison.

Thus the harsh responses from the main body of members.

I, for one, am sorry to read about your problems. Since the artificial sapphire one your little Speedy is treated with the verneuil flame fusion method, giving the anti-reflective coating a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, I wonder if the decision to line your shirt cuffs with carborundum paper was such a good idea.

We are all saddened to read about your move over to our arch enemy the rolex people, we are certain you will find the same shit at twice the price and you will need to hide your pristine 30 year old Seamaster. A better way to go would be to fall to your knees and pray to the Omega Gods and the whole Omega congregation for forgiveness for your blasphemy. And get that tube of Polywatch and start rubbing. Best of luck to you.

Probably too late for your sound advice, the OP is most likely bagging us and Omega on Rolex Forms ATM

They could get a fake and bypass the 32XX problem!! Just saw a fake 5 series GMT at the beach. It looked great at 10 feet away!

Seen a couple of the super clones and they're getting damn close to perfect, from a couple feet away. Far cry from the Bolex acquisitions from the island piers on the cruise ship stops of yesterday.

But if you're going to be spending super clone money, there are plenty of great watches in the segment of the market to choose from. At least in my thinking.

Then again, my thinking is how I ended up on the forum posting along with a collection of watches and buying two when selling one to thin out said collection. So there's that. 😂

A couple of years ago I owned a 114060 ceramic no-date Submariner--the 40mm version with the chunky lugs. My friend bought a high quality counterfeit of the same model and we compared it. It was pretty scary from the outside. Even handling the watch I could not tell the watch was fake. But when we opened the caseback the movement looked bad. Not even remotely possible to pass it off as real. It also did not perform well on the timegrapher. There was a wide difference in timing between positions (the delta) and it ran about +12 seconds per day. Not exactly Rolex quality.

But from outside? Very convincing. I even put a sticker on my real watch to make sure they did not get accidentally switched up. Even the bezel click was spot on and the bracelet quality was excellent. Crazy.

We also water tested his fake and it was not water tight. So while it looked like the real deal the movement was crap and it couldn't be used in the water. But I guess some people are only concerned about appearances.
