Here is my Omega Speedmaster 2998-6. I am new to the forum and I would like to hear from the forum members recommendations about changing the bezel and other improvements.

New Photos added. Crystal has been replaced.

I am willing to sell this piece but I am not able to post on the Watch Sale Forum. If anyone is interested in please send me a PM.

    Regards.

I'm sure others will say if it is the right bezel but I would be very happy to have it on my watch

yup, keep it as is. You could buy a newer service bezel, but that would devalue the watch and remove one of the key markers of the reference. Alternatively, you could try to find the same bezel (marked by the Dot Over Ninety) for sale, but as recent threads will illustrate, they're over $1000 USD these days.

keep the one you have. it gives the watch unique character.

Don't do it, man. You will regret it later on. The wabi sabi also matches the rest of the watch.

Very nice looking watch. Like others have said all I would change is the crystal.

    Er....and a service!

    Lovely thing, full of character.

I always replace crown pushers and crystal with a service, only clean the case, no polish. (actually I do use the words "light case refinish" with the watch maker which means no metal removal)

Just to be contrary, you can replace the bezel, dial, and hands with modern service parts (you can still get a dial that looks like that) and save the originals. That way you have a good-looking watch you can wear every day and if you ever want to sell it to a collector, you can give them the original parts.

I'm afraid I sent my dads omega to be serviced by omega and made the mistake of agreeing to new dial and hands before I knew better. As per a previous thread, fortunately after 2 years I was able to get the old parts back. They will be going back on at the next service.

Those parts are sooooo much safer on the watch than in a drawer.

I am absolutely agree with the others forum members. Only one thing.

DO NOT SEND THE WATCH TO SERVICE BEFORE ASK FOR ADVICE TO THE SPECIALIST FORUM MEMBERS.

Perhaps so, but his watch, his choice.

Well the op asked for opinions and I agree with ehats been said. Keep the bezel on the watch-it's where it's meant to be and the odd scratch is better than loosing it.

A quick service for the movement and bath for the case, with new pushers etc should do just the trick.

    Great watch.

Whether to wear or store nice parts probably deserves it's own thread. For a while, I thought the same - get some service parts and put the good ol' stuff away for future.. but I came to realize that it was the good ol' stuff that makes these watches such a pleasure to wear. So, while I'm not a professional collector, I have acquired a few nice pieces, and I wear them in all their glory.

I may still pick up some service parts in case the unthinkable happens and I'm desperate, but until then, it's the service parts that will be in the drawer and I will enjoy the original parts myself for a while.

I suspect for me the future would never come and the only time I would see the parts would be when I opened the draw! I wear my watches every day and love looking at them ( I know I have been contentious regarding this issue over the last few days! ), I would keep them on and not worry if I added an e tea dent or two.....unless of course you have bought this as an investment to sell on at some point ( I suspect you haven't ).

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you ;-) After much research and some advise from Richardew, I recently sent my 105-012 w/CB case for service. I was told by their very trusted watch-maker that after it's taken apart the case will be "power washed" and rinsed. He would not polish a CB case unless ordered to do so. He further stated, to insure their pressure test, that the original crown and pushers would have to be replaced. All the original parts will be returned. ::psy::
