Hi all, I just wanted to show my Omega Speedmaster 2998-3 and „start“ a discussion about a hot topic of reluming vintage speedies. First of all some words to this speedy. I bought it together with my dad around 5 years ago for a very decent price. The lume was gone and the small chrono hands were wrong. The other hands were correct and we also had the nice correct bracelet on it We decided to replace the chrono hands. The time went on and we were not really happy with this watch, because we did not like the look without lume. We discussed this topic alot and we saw the pros and cons. And yes there are a lot of both. But finally we wanted to wear it. These speedies have to be worn in our opinion and thats why we finally decided to relume the watch, of course no glowing We know that several people do really not like reluming, since it is not the original condition of a watch etc.... that is for sure correct. But since there was no lume left, we can easily remove the new lume again and the watch is in original condition again, but why should we !!! Here are some photos, the are 2 pictures at the end showing the watch before reluming it.
I agree with that re-lume completely. The fact that you said "non-glowing" means a lot too. That's what I said with a VAP Ed White.
Looks great after the relume. Furthermore, if you ever sell the watch, the buyer can just decide to remove the relume to restore the watch to its "original" condition.
thanks guys for all that kind feedback! I will wear it with proud! But when I see the 2998-2 in the other thread I get jealous !!!!
You did very well and now the watch looks fantastic!! As you said a watch has been built to be worn and to be good looking according to your taste as long as the watch is yours and of course there will always be someone saying “it’s not original” or “the lume is too this or that...” but that’s human nature and honestly I don’t think you have to worry about the value of your watch now it’s for sure better like this than without lume Great job
