    Hi.

This is my first thread and i´m glad to be here.

I´m looking for a Omega Speedmaster (145.022) from 1980 (40.xxx.xxx or 41.xxx.xxx). I´ve been searching for some time and I saw from several years but none from 1980. The cuestion is... were they made in that year or not? Can you recomend me any shop to inquire?

    Thanks

I just got a seriously nice '84 from a dealer in Japan. I might recommend contacting a couple of the eBay Japanese dealers and telling them what you're looking for.

I got mine by typing in "1979 omega" into watchrecon...was surprised that the search ended so quickly!

Thank you! Can you tell me what dealer? Are they trusted sellers?

I got my '84 from closer0924; elady01 is another big dealer. My watch was described as "good;" I would describe it as "flawless." For example, there are 5 watchmaker's service marks inscribed in the caseback (e.g., AB743188); this suggests to me that this 31-year-old watch was serviced every 6 years or so. Both of these dealers offer 14-day returns. I tend to trust Japanese sellers; they seem to disclose more than some others (if watch has been polished, for example). Caution is always advised with these watches, however.

Look on Chrono24 as well, there are refs. from the eighties quite often. However, there are always people mixing up serial number databases and listing Speedmasters from the early nineties as eighties. Those tend to quickly get nervous if you advise them about their mistakes...

I've found my birth year (1985) Speedmaster through C24 : all you need is patience and good saved searches with email alerts. Good luck ! ;)

Oh you suck so much ;) I've been thinking about picking up a 3592.50 beater but have been trying to hold off on acquisitions until next year, which so far hasn't been difficult because I haven't seen many for sale (not actively searching) but here we are with a bunch of decent examples. Now I'm gonna be ::censored:: broke!

Thanks for the advice. If fact, now I´m confused... first I thought that serials were 40.xxx.xxx and 41.xxx.xxx for Speedy but someone has show me one 44.xxx.xxx with an Omega certificate telling that was manufacturared in 1980. Is that true??

It was surprising for me too... the guy tells me that the case back its a ST145022 that was only made for some months in 1980... rare, isn´t it?

I've building a serial number spreadsheet and I think I have that same reference: 44,819,xxx has an Omega extract dating it to 1980. Most of the other (non-extract) data I have puts 44M at 1983 or so.

I confirm : 44.8 is the correct range (Thanks Greg)

There is one for sale in C24 but for a lot of money for a non historical watch (yes my birth year is Also 80)

    Good luck
