Hi Forum Friends!

I have had some R & R for some time, and actually not chased so much after Speedy auctions…😉
But this one did make me a bit curious!

i normally don't search after 80´s Speedys, but this one looked very promising.

A one owner/family watch, with box, papers and the original receipt gives a good vibe.

The reference is 145022, with the CRS in the stamping.
And the bracelet was a 1171/633.
Serial nr placed the watch with production May 1982.

The condition (based on the low quality pictures):

The dial looked nice, no visible scratches, oilspots or blemishes.
The lume had a very nice pleasing color, no loss or dirt.
Matching hands with no marks after a watchmaker.
The bezel had a few small ding, but nothing disturbing.
The case had sharp edges, and visible brushing.
But it had some deeper scratches that took the case out from the Very Good grading.
The caseback had the red wax seal and the blue coating!
Very fun and nice!

So probably never serviced?
No movement pictures….

I think that the watch would look amazing after a service/clean up!

Value??

Speedmaster101 goes up to 78´s, and the Very Good are at 4200 $ / 3700€ (head only)

I remembered a lovely CRS that was for sale here on the Forum last year,
it was really amazing, and got sold directly with an asking price of 5000$/4400€!

Thanks @omegawatchlover !!

So maybe the same value including the fun stuff around?

I did not want to bid on this one, so I did not bother for more/deeper info.

Auction day arrived, and I was actually sitting on the beach with my beloved Mythos, following the auction!
🍺🍺🍺

Lots and lots of bids, and the hammer finally landed at a woooopping 7200 $/ 6300€ including the premium!!

Crazy Days!

Enjoy the (not so crisp/detailed) pictures, and comment as usual!

Hi Hans.

I don't know what informed collector who would pay that much for that watch.

Case is sharp but it's dirty, which suggests it was worn but not serviced, so a service is due. Most watches need a service but add that to the price and it gets more ridiculous.

The 3590.50 reference is similar and can be found between 4k and 5k. The lume on the 3590.50 is often more pumpkin colored, as compared to the lume on this auction watch. It might be my phone, but the lume of this watch has a greenish tint to me.

It'll clean up nicely and make a nice watch to wear. But strictly looking at what was paid against what what someone could have gotten for that money, it seems a bad deal.

only stupid people without any knowledge pay that price - but that's a kind of freedom

That's a wild price. I guess the full set and single owner provenance drives a frenzy? The greenish lume though is kind of a turnoff for me personally at any price.

There's a great 145.022 CRS at Windvintage right now that I would much rather have... asking $6,900, possibly could be had for less (and I thought that was expensive!)

I can only agree with you Dave!

But dirty/one owner watches do get a lot of attraction...and I love finding them....😁

But the price is waaay off on this one, and not a perfect watch!
Auction fever maybe??

There could be some fresh to the Speedy world who must have B&P?
But for that money paid - we are looking at 321 Speedy territory!

And Mr Wind´s CRS looks nice, but maybe a bit "soft" on the case?

Bidders must have overvalued the story and box and papers.

Birth month for me but the price is daft. Many later 80’s Speedmasters have lovely yellow lume, this mint green is the worst colour for vintage Speedmaster lume (obviously not including dirty/mouldy coloured lume) as it has no depth or character and makes the dial looked washed out.

Besides the silly money, what’s so special about this example?

OK example, I guess, but still seems like a substantial overpay. I don’t like the green lume, either. I think I’d much rather have a nicely aged 3590.50 and two or three extra thousand bucks.

I will keep a lookout for your Speedy...If you keep track for a 105.012-65 with production 66 for me?
😁

There's a nice on with box and papers (and allegedly serviced) at Shuck The Oyster now for 6900 Euro.

The going rate for these 1980s Speedies seems high to me! As others have mentioned, a very good condition 3590.50 continues to be the 861 Speedmaster bargain.
