Last week I've handed an amazing Speedmaster to a new owner. I am not sure if he's on this forum but I wanted to share some pictures on this watch with ΩF - if he's here and wants to claim ownership, up to him. I've sourced this one from eBay a couple of years ago. It came from a french collector who bought it in the early seventies. I can remember my excitement about this watch as well as the stress to see it eventually sold locally when the seller told me "Hey, it's thursday - I will not ship anything before monday because I don't want this watch to be in a Postal office over the weekend"... till the very last moment I wasn't sure I'll get it but finally it worked out and it happens to be one of the best condition Straight Writing Speedmasters I've ever seen. That dial was absolutely flawless, with a superb yellow lume. Hands beautifully aged, too. Beautiful and sharp case and a Straight Writing caseback like if it just came out of the factory. The 1039/516 bracelet was in the same condition as the watch, including most of the expandable links, all in a great shape. The 1039 buckle dated from the 3rd quarter 1971, matching quite well the watch production period, confirmed by the extract. The set was also including a beautiful crater box which by the way had a different finish inside compared to some other crater boxes I have or have seen over time. This silk covering, with Bijouterie W. Leclerc (France) stickers was something I've seen only once so far. All matching the original delivery to France, mentioned in the Extract from the Omega Archives. Hope you enjoyed the post and the high-resolution pictures of the watch and accessories.
From here on out, any time I see a question in the form of "what is collector grade?", I will point them to this thread and say "your answer is right here". Sick that you decided to sell it... are you completely mad?
In case you haven't reread @kov 's text again, its already sold before this post was published Absolutely drool-dripping stuff...
Thank you ! Yes, I think I can definitely say this is a collector grade almost 50 years old Speedmaster. The reason I’ve sold it is simple. I wasn’t wearing it so the joy of having it in my collection got as low as I’ve almost forgot about it in the bank vault. Combined with the wish to explore some new things (that I partially shared here) and the limited resources to explore the new things, I have made that decision. No regrets, new stuff to try and learn about
What a superb watch! I can't believe you've sold this one, but if the proceeds went towards the incredible zenith A385 you just piked up it's understandable . My humble -69 SW in comparison, says hello Happy hunting! Cheers, Max
stunning watches there was one local to me looked pretty good but just too much was being asked for it
You know how it goes : In X years time one will look back and think 'daaaaaaeeeeeemn that was a good price'
