Silly discussion and probably unfair. A friend of mine (who owns quite of watches) made the bold claim that buying an Omega snoopy is a waste of money; might as well as use the money to buy a vintage Rolex 5513.

I admire both watches, but I feel servicing and maintaining a 5513 would be more expensive in the long run. Hence I'm leaning towards the snoopy (that is if I do have the cash for it).

    Which would you guys choose?

I wouldn't make my decision based on maintenance cost. They're different animals, I personally would choose the 5513 every day of the week over Snoopy.

I don't think the snoopy is a waste of money as it is likely to hold its value at a minimum. It should be a choice of what you want and not whats more fiscally responsible, never have I regretted spending hard earned money on a watch I really wanted!

Also as for the point about cost of maintenance, I'm not sure what will be more expensive, after all the 5513 is a 3 hander vs the snoopy being a chronograph, so although it is more modern the cost of services may be more expensive for the snoopy, although i am not sure as I have never serviced a Rolex, let alone a 5513.

Every watchmaker does, its a lot more work. But i just meant factoring in the availability of the parts for the 5513.

Movement parts on the 5513's are readily available as they're shared across many Rolex references such as the GMT.

While Snoopy's are starting to trend down, neither are going to go down much over the next few years. A good 5513 will hold as a benchmark for all vintage watches. They are kinda the 57 chevy of the watch world, and I would argue are a better investment.

Service costs are a wash in the long run. While the 5513 might be cheaper due to more Rolex certifications out there and not being a Chrono at the end of the day 200 bucks difference every 5 years is meaningless.

Your mate is not one to buy what he likes as how do you compare a white chronograph with a black diver.

Buy what you want! even if your mates think it's butt ugly.

    The one I like.
At the end of the day, owning a luxury watch is a "luxury" by definition. I would never choose between a Maserati or a Ferrari based on fuel consumption. These kind of purchases are in my opinion driven by the heart, if you look at costs... I'm not sure you will make the right decision.

I, personally, would not buy any watch, themed with a naive cartoon character,… unless it was for a small child

5513 without a shadow of doubt……if only for capital preservation

If it costs more to service,……that's the membership fees you accept… for a 'luxury' ( ? ) Item

If you go through bob ridley who is one of the best watchmakers who restores vintage rolexes in the USA, it won't be a waste of money. The Rolex 15xx movements are bulletproof and sturdy

No where but down for the Snoopy. It is priced sky-high right now.

+1 here.... I mean, what do I like better, a steak with Fries or Ice cream?...White BMW Sport or a black Mercedes SUV...

    It's just an odd comparison.

Snoopy is not my cup of tea to be honest. I don't think service costs are relevant as a previous poster has noted. Go with what you like and enjoy!!!!!

Own a 5513 as well as Speedmasters and the 5513 is cheaper to service as it's not a chronograph. Less complications = lower servicing costs. As other people have said, they're totally different watches but each is desirable in its own way ... and I do have both Snoopys on my list of watches to own.
