Omega Semaster Diver 300 Bezel Swap

Hello friends from OF. I don't know if this will be sacrilege to all of you, but I've been flirting with the idea of changing the bezel color on my Diver 300. I own a 210.30.42.20.06.001 which comes with the chrome dial and blue bezel insert. Has anyone done this before? I was wondering how a black bezel insert would look on this chrome dial. Any suggestions? Thx!

The hands are also blue. I wouldn't care for it.
Do you think that splash of blue will bee too much?

I would like the black trim on the hands with a black bezel. Blue/black, not so much.

It's your watch, do what you want. Did a bezel replacement on my 2351.80 and the seller sent me a black instead of blue. Since the dial was blue it really didn't work.

With the silver dial black or blue works fine. When the accent colors on the dial are blue, a black bezel might visually clash with it. Probably a mock-up will make it easier to see the differences to make a better decision instead of ordering the new bezel.

It might be possible for you to source a black handset as well? That would require a bit more work from a watchmaker, but it would definitely be a unique and interesting piece.

Seems pretty common to mod speedmasters, so I don't see what the issue is with your seamaster!

Good point! Thought about it aswell, now where do I get the parts from? Art they available in an Omega dealer? I've never modded a watch previously BTW.

I don't know how you would pull this off. Omega does not sell parts to the public. You need to have a watch serviced by Omega in order for them to replace parts. And they won't replace parts that do not go with that specific watch.

I don't know exactly how restrictive Omega has gotten with all of their parts, but a certified watchmaker with an Omega Parts account might be able to get the hands in this case. At least in the past it has been parts from highly limited models that have been impossible to get without a direct part exchange through Omega.

Someone on watchuseek was recently (last several months) able to obtain some handset parts for a Seamaster 300 heritage from another Seamaster model, so they are likely available somewhere.

To the OP: and authorized dealer or Boutique is not likely to order you or sell you the "wrong parts." It is also likely that Doing a hand mod would void your warranty if you still have one.

An independent is risking their parts account if they order hands for a watch that didn't come with them. I think you see hands floating around because they are usually replaced at service and returned to the customer. So they are pre-owned hands.

That's how I was able to put SMP 2220.80 hands on my 2531.80 SMP. I had the 2220.80 serviced and OSC replaced the hands and returned the old ones to me. Then I put them on the 2531.80.

I guess my question is, are they risking their parts account? My understanding is that the risk of that happens when they are either selling restricted parts or building actual Omega references. I suppose we would need someone who understands omega's policies, like archer, to chime in for a complete answer here.

My Omega certified watchmaker will only mod watches for existing customers he has an history with. He will also order parts, granted they aren’t restricted to trade in. If I want to use a restricted part, I have to provide it myself. Again, he will only do this for existing customers he has a history with. He turns away anyone that doesn’t have that.

That said, not all Omega certified watchmakers will accept this kind of work.

I didn't know they were different! Just googled it, looks like the hour and minute hands are longer, is that it?

Yes. The 2531.80 and 2541.80 hands were weirdly short. They waited 13 years to fix the issue. 😀

And black hour markers too maybe?

Does the date wheel have blue numbers and the dial have blue in the waves as well?

I have to agree with @redpcar I would not care for this mish-mash.

No, there is no blue in the waves.

No, there is no blue in the waves.

However, the hands, hour marker surrounds, minute track, writing on the dial, and numerals on the date wheel are all blue. IMHO this mod would not go well together.
