    Hi there,

I am a total newbie here and with watches in general but I am interested in buying an old Seamster. A private is selling one locally and I don't know if it is genuine or not, and in a decent state. Could you please help me? Any advice is very welcome. I have attached a few pictures.
    Thank you

    Hello and welcome.

Yes, its genuine, however the dial has been refinished and the case polished.

    This hurts value.

Thank you so much! What do you think its value would be?

The guy is asking for 700 USD. Is that reasonable?
Is there anything I should make sure that would need to come with the watch, such as a certificate or a box?
    Many thanks

As Norm said above the redone dial hurts the value...$700 with an original dial is too much.

It's at least $300 too much given the dial is repainted. Even with an original dial, a late 50's caliber 503 Seamaster Calendar would have to be in very nice shape to get $700.
