Hi all,

I am fiddling with a Seamaster ref 166.009 cal 562 I picked up from ebay which needs a new stem. The old stem broke off long ago. I managed to salvage the crown using the alum powder solution recommended by @Archer but now the replacement stem I purchased won't fit. The shank is too wide to screw into the existing crown.

The part I bought is supposedly 550-1106 (stem for 550 series movements). Any advice where I went wrong? Thanks for your help.

For a 562, 5501106 is correct so:
Did it come in the original packaging?
Is it an Omega crown and are you sure it is completely clear of the old stem?

The higher numbers of the 550 series (563 to 565) use a 5631106 stem and the winding pinion plus setting lever change so, the stem is different in that area. Both are the same threaded portion at the crown which should be tap 9.

You probably have the wrong stem.

Regards, Chris

Thanks for the help.

It did not come in original packaging. Based on your information, I imagine it is indeed the wrong stem. I will contact the seller and hopefully get it sorted out. Thanks again.
