It looks to be mid-late 70s. There were quite a few of these rectangular Seamasters in that period, building on the design and innovation of the Marine Chronometers.

My guess is that it's most probably Quartz. I'm not able to check right now, but somebody may be able to look it up for you.

Yes it is a Quartz . Sorry for not following the tread better . I have looked everywhere for this model . Found it first on a auction site and then a fellow forum member bought an other like this . Two watches looking the same . I have looked at Mariner 1, 2, 3 watches and Constallation models to found this watch . But no . Is it that rare or fake ?

It's not so much rare as not very popular. I think I have pictures of this model in an old catalogue so will try to look it up.

It's not fake, it's a Seamaster Mariner 3 ref. 196.0242 / 396.0938 cal. 1420 (quartz), and pretty rare.

In terms of production numbers any late 70s Omega is comparably rare. The Quartz Crisis was at it's worst. Production during these years was really low.
Being rare does however not always imply value or collectibility. Being a child of the late 60s I kind of like those funky 70s designs, but there are not that many of us.

I googled 196.0242 and this model came up http://www.chrono24.se/omega/seamaster-marine-mariner-iii-ref-1960242-kaliber-1420--id2987733.htm. This model i have found before . Look closely at the picture . On the watch the dial goes all the way out to the edge .Look at this two pictures . Spot the difference ? The first is a 196.0242/396.0938 and the other?

I'm pretty sure the ref. is correct. The dial may vary as well the calendar disc color. As well, i've seen both bracelet types on this model.

Nothing strange about 1 specific model and dial type showing up on the net. I have been looking on the net for a Seamaster that is an exact match to mine for a year, and still no luck. And since it was my fathers I am fairly certain it is still all original.

Any numbers on the case or hang tag (assuming that is a picture of the watch you have)? If not, you will likely have to open the case back to get full verification.

Cheers, Al

I have an almost identical watch however the face is white with gilt edging and numerals. It originally had a band with alternate gilt/steel bars but this was replaced by an all steel one. I purchased it in Brisbane, Australia in 1986 (New) does that help with identification?
