D6631ABA-D00D-4A67-ACB0-5046FD383D2B.jpeg hello guys, this is my first Omega and my first post on this forum. I’m just wanting to know a little about it. The eBay add was as follows:

    OMEGA cal. 470 SEAMASTER

    ~ Circa 1958 ~

Case Size and Material: 36mm Stainless Steel

    Reference Number: 2689

    Serial: 16803585

    Dial: (REDIAL)

Bezel: "Ghost Bezel" Model -- Light Silver tone

    Movement: Automatic cal. 470

    Condition: Winds, sets, and runs
Box or Papers: No Box or Papers included

This vintage Seamaster from Omega is in cool patina'd condition! It winds, runs, and sets, as well as an unrestored watch of this vintage should. A great candidate for parts, repair, or wear it as it is!

Anyways, I was wondering if it is indeed from circa 1958. I was wondering if it looks authentic. I would like to know if it looks like a poorly done redial, (I honestly didn’t notice that it said redial until after I impulse bid and won it.) I paid $345 for it, was it a decent deal or did I get ripped off? It does seem to wind well and keep time. I’ve been wearing it all day and it hasn’t lost any time or stopped at all. I plan on getting it serviced just to make sure all is well as this is my first vintage watch and I want it to last a while. I appreciate any input, thanks 0F7DCC35-1A85-463A-BC06-3C6EFF5CCDB4.jpeg B9F0B7B6-7253-472B-AE0A-0F50FC07F53F.jpeg 60727B01-EE7B-48EA-8438-83176EE0B306.jpeg 750FB7DB-CF48-4C53-B472-F9F2E499A113.jpeg EA61F3BF-3028-4CCB-AEFD-3F5075290855.jpeg 8001094A-0102-49E7-853B-E83DE826233E.jpeg 5B52F9CD-046C-4344-AE01-0B895B8540C2.jpeg

Dial looks original to me. Not a redial.

    Frankenwatch.

Either the case or the movement has been changed at the very least.

The ad was wrong, or the case back is not original to the watch. Case back says it is a 2869 1SC, not a 2689. As others have said, likely a mix of parts.

Did you get ripped off? Mostly you just made an impulse buy with standard results. The best time to ask OF is before you buy. I have a $13 error inbound as I write this - too much time in the sun and only minutes left on the auction. We call this noob tax.

Do the terms of sale allow for a refund? If not, I wonder what others think, could you claim that with the redial and frankenparts, is the watch not “unrestored” and worthy of EBay intervention / refund?

PS. It is not a bad looking piece. That view may change when you become educated about vintage and what is correct and meaningful to you and to other collectors. If you keep it, then factor in apx $150 for service, and enjoy it and wear it in good health

I will definitely check it with the forum before impulse buying another one from eBay. I see what you’re saying about the case not being the original. Makes me wonder what I really have. I guess I way overpaid on noob tax. I still want to possibly get it serviced. I was thinking about maybe seeing if the dial could be cleaned, but I’ll probably leave it as it is. Thanks for your input.

It seems that you do have an Omega watch, it is debated as to which parts are original. I would not have sold this as an “unrestored” watch, if parts were changed, that is a restoration. Not sure if the seller knows watches all that well, so maybe not deliberate. Either way, it is a half-truth - so maybe if asked (not threatened) the seller will cut you a partial refund and keep his good ratings. Then again, you will learn on the forum what is and what isn’t code for molested and unmolested watches in these ads.

For what it is worth, I wouldn’t spend money getting the dial cleaned. Just enjoy it as a watch that has lived a good life. Maybe a matt black calf, camel or buffalo strap would compliment it well.

What makes you think it’s not a redial?
