Hi there, I'm new here and would like some comments on this watch that I am considering buying. The seller dont know anything about watches so he cant open the monocoque case, hense I dont know what movement hides inside. I have confirmed with him that its a "quick set" date type of movement. The pictures are not great, but I hope you experts can help me spot something that I should be aware of on this watch. Does the dial look original?

    Many Thanks!

By "quick set" do you mean pulling and pushing the crown advances the date?

yes, sorry if I used the wrong word. I just mean that you can set the date with the crown without having to wind the clock around enough times for the date to turn over. Is that "quick set" , sorry, I'm a newbie ::shy::

By the crown, meaning wind it past 12, then backwards to 9, then past 12 again to advance the date, then keep repeating as necessary? Or like I described in my last post? Please tell us which way and we'll be able to tell you what movement should be inside.

when I check the Omega vintage database I can find that 18k Seamaster Deville came with at least 2 diffrent movements.

    Caliber number: 562 / 563
    Cal. 562 (COSC sometimes)
    Created in 1958, 24 jewels
    Cal. 563
    Created in 1965, 17 jewels
    Central sweep-second hand

I belive the 562 dont have the quickset function for the date, so I suppose it may be a 563 inside?

If it quick sets with a push - pull of the crown it has a 563 inside.

yes, agreed the pics are not much to work with, sorry about the quality, but these are all I have right now. Assuming everything is what it appears to be, what would be a ballpark value of this kind of 18k solid gold watch?

Thanks very much for all your replies

The nicer stainless steel and gold capped versions of these SMDV's are selling for $550 - $750 depending on which case reference, what caliber, and what condition they're in. I'd say add $650 at the minimum for 18ct, but you might snag it cheap because the serious Omega collectors who look for solid gold would overlook this model, and the newer Omega collector wouldn't want to fork out the kind of money it'll take to snag this one. If you're very lucky you might grab it for under $1150. Definitely worth watching if it's an eBay listing and trying to snipe it in the last 10 or 15 seconds.

Make sure you mention what site you got it from if you do pick it up. Etsy and other eBay alternatives need some free publicity so they can compete better with the monopoly eBay has become.

If the dial is original, it can go over 1500, if it's a redial ( I think it is) ,worth less than 1K.

thankyou! I picked up the watch from an online add listing in Sweden (I'm living in Sweden), will post a better picture of it when I get it home. I guess its hard to tell the state of the watch from the fuzzy pictures that I got now. I'm taking a chance on this as I got a fairly good deal on it. (assuming its legit...)

Wearing a vintage Omega could potentially get you out of a ticket or two in Sweden, just need to get the right policeman.
