    Hi,

Some time ago I was given an Omega Seamaster Cosmic as a gift that had apparently come from my grandfather. After not really doing anything with it for a number of years I recently decided to get it serviced and start wearing it day-to-day. As part of the service I asked if they could identify the model/year. The best they could come back with was 1950s (I'm not sure how much I trust this).

I've had no luck finding it in the available archive and was wondering if anyone here could help. I've only got the one picture for the time being until I get it back from service. Could anyone help identify this and/or establish how much it's been messed with?

Apologies for the lack of a decent picture...

    Thanks

Unusual (and attractive) dial. Appears original to me. Dates to early 1970's. Someone should be along shortly to provide more detail.
BTW, the Cosmic has a loyal fan base. The design is very appealing to some of us (C-case shape), and the movement is among the last of the "good" ones.
My advice is for the service of the movement only. I wouldn't consider polishing it or replacing any parts like the dial or hands. But it's up to you...
Congrats on coming to appreciate a very nice watch!

can tell you this is not from 50s but from mid to late 60s possibly early 70s. With the serial number from the movement and the reference number from inside the case back it can be dated much more accurately via the Omega Vintage Database. Ask your jeweler to write these #s down or better yet get a picture of the movement and the inside of the case back (as so you can read the #s). Its a cool funky watch, I like it and its in very good condition...you might have your jeweler replace the crystal as it looks like the current one is cracked at the two o'clock position.

Thanks so much. I've asked for a replacement crystal but I wanted to keep everything else as is. When I get it back I'll be able to get the serial etc and try from there. I'm really happy either way as I love the watch, it's just great to get a little more info.

Sweet Omega! glad you held on to it and are now enjoining it. That watch was probably a special thing for your grandfather.
